Covers fascinate me. For me, a cover of a song will introduce some new element or present a song in such a way where I have a new appreciation for it. Even if the "new element" falls flatly upon its face, it's still interesting to see where a new artist took an old song.
Foreign language covers in particular fascinate me, and always have. Above we have the Turkish ska band Athena doing a cover of Nirvana's "Breed". And while, musically, this might be a fairly standard cover (and it's not a bad one at that), it IS fairly brave of them to do a Turkish language cover of the song, especially given the syllable-heavy nature of the agglunitative Turkish language (and as you can see, certain parts need to be sung differently just to accomodate that difference). It certainly makes you wonder what Kurt Cobain would have thought, if he knew that half a world away someone was singing his music in a completely different language. :: laugh ::
(This is also nostalgia for me. I seem to keep forgetting how long ago this song came out! Or rather, how long it's been since Kurt Cobain died and my brother finally stopped ranting about his various theories as to how Cobain "really" died.)
