Today's picture is from our trip to Benten Harbour, Michigan, and the sheer beauty of the cliffside and the lake made me think of other scenes of nature that are in my old Japanese books, and in various Japanese prints.
The goal? To make something reminiscent to a Japanese woodblock print, which would mean, for one thing, simple colours. I've seen very extravagant illustrations in black and white in several older books of mine, and 2-6 colour prints featuring simple colour yet still having a very detailed black layer (like Kunisada). I think I was at least partially successful in this, though my shapes and lines need to be simpler, I think, to be reminiscent to the words of Hokusai.
It's no Fujiyama, but there you go. Comments welcome.
