M - Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder

Okay, based on your recommendations, guys, I finally saw Fritz Lang's M. Actually, I found a super cheap copy ($4.00 including shipping), and picked it up. After all, if it turns out I hate it, it's only $4, right?

GREAT film, with some excellent shots, and a creepy lack of a "soundtrack" (which I guess would be implemented in later films?), and every Fritz Lang film seems to arrive at a group of people developing a mob mentality. Peter Lorre becomes someone to pity as a child murderer who wreaks havoc in a German town, and his performance is wonderful. All in all, a great film. Carl, who seemed completely disinterested in my description of the film while I was ordering it, seemed to quite enjoy it, for the most part.

One of several questions I have: did Lang have an issue with endings? The ending to both Metropolis and M are equally as abrupt. I chalked up the abrupt nature to the ending of Metropolis as an effect of the film losing half of its running time, but there's no such excuse (that I'm aware of) to be had with M. This seemed to be the one issue Carl had with the film.

So that was quite enjoyable -- now, are there other old films that I probably haven't seen, that you guys would recommend?
