Playing With Myself
... no, not that way. Not this time, at least. ^^;;;;
I mentioned looking at old Japanese books, which in turn had me looking at an old Hakunin Isshu card set; I was going to show Carl the game, which is still played to this day, and I found this page, featuring the "Hen-Tsukuri Karuta", and its modern variant Kanji Hakushi. The basic concept is that there are 100+ cards, each with an element of a Japanese character, and these cards need to be combined to make a "complete" character. I think the concept is awesome and this is something I'd certainly play.
... of course in order to play you need someone to play WITH. Carl has kanji knowledge but has no interest in the game whatsoever, and I can't think of anyone else local who would play this game. So -- kind of makes getting the game kind of pointless, ne, if there's no one to play WITH. ^^;;;
