Just in case you didn't know, Skype now works just fine on the iphone for voice calling. Haven't tried using the call to phones yet, but you can definitely use it to do skype-to-skype over WiFi connections...Jess is heading out of the country tonight for a couple weeks and we just tested our connectivity and it's all systems go for long distance ( Read more... )

I really wanted to have skype a few months ago. It wasn't because I wanted to get free minutes on my phone (as the family plan I have ends up wasting rollover minutes every month as they overflow once they hit their limit). It was mostly because I couldn't get a decent signal in my own home and wanted to be able to use the excellent signal of my WiFi that was already there instead of the one bar or no-service condition of the crappy Shitcago area AT$T signal.

But just as Skype came out on the iPhone the signal improved (I think they put up a new cell tower near me) and that took a lot of the wind out of the sails. It still drops me every 20 minutes but I rarely make long phone calls. I did play around with the skype software and found it was pretty crippled and hard to use -but I'm sure they have improved it somewhat -although I'm sure apple has made sure to keep it as crippled as they possibly can.

I'm going to limp along on my current iPhone until it dies and then I'm going to throw it in the blender and watch it turn to dust as I order a new Android. Hopefully by the time it dies some really neat Androids will come out.

Never again will I ever buy any Apple product. NEVER AGAIN.
