-It is late. While many of the other members of the base are fast asleep, Shinji is alert and awake. He appears to be battling the simulator's AI with Unit 01's combat data. There are deep rings under his eyes, but he has yet to tire

Hey kid, you shouldn't just keep repeating the same thing. Branch out a bit. Why don't I train you?

-Shinji barely acknowledges Dingo's presence initially. He continues his target practice, but ceases his mumbling.-

You were that crazy guy from the last mission, weren't you?

-The simulator rattles with another successful shot.-

Makes no difference to me, really. I just thought it was considered polite to ask. I'm Shinji Ikari, if it matters any.

"Train"? I guess I wouldn't mind a spar... I'm tougher than I look, though.

I hope so. I want to test your abilities, so I won't hold back.

Jehuty shot into the air like a bullet from a gun, strafing Unit 01's simulation form and firing a burst of homing lasers that scattered before zeroing in all over Unit 01's body.

The shots met with some initial resistance, but several slipped through to singe portions of Unit 01's armor. Undeterred, Unit 01 rocketed into a surprisingly swift run, firing a few blasts from its rifle as it attempted to close the distance between the two mecha.

Dingo grunted as Jehuty shot back, extending it's hand and throwing up a shield to protect itself from the rifle shots. After the impact, it began boosting away, putting some distance between itself and the Eva.

Unit 01 almost seemed to grin - perhaps it always appeared that way behind its creepy mask - meanwhile maintaining its speedy gait. Reaching behind its back with its free hand, it removed its progressive knife and thrust it towards Jehuty like a boomerang, keeping up the pressure with rifle blasts.

"Tch!"

Jehuty shoots into the air, launching a burst of homing lasers to knock the Prog knife out of the way. However, evasive manuevers aren't enough to prevent some damage from the rifle, and it takes some solid shots.

"Not bad, kid!"

Unit 01 stumbles a bit over catching the knife again, but focuses on trying to take advantage of Jehuty's moment of weakness. It releases a flurry of shots, not just directly at Jehuty but all over the place, attempting to hit wherever it may be evading.

Jehuty again throws up its shield to block the incoming attacks. When the opening presents itself, it charges forward, darting to the side and launching homing lasers at Unit 01 as it darts around to it's back to make itself harder to see and attack.

A majority of the bullets, having been fired haphazardly, ricochet harmlessly off the shield. Unit 01 stumbles backwards and takes most of the laser shots directly in the chest.

"Ugh... you can shoot, but..."

Shuddering a little more as it recovers again, Unit 01 whips itself around, aiming to snatch Jehuty by an arm or some other limb within its impressive reach. The hand gripping the rifle surges forward for a blunt strike with the weapon, in the event of a failing grab.

"You got too close this time!"

Having anticipated this, Dingo smiled faintly inside his cockpit as Jehuty's trajectory changed and it suddenly shot down, it's blade extending from it's arm as Dingo drove it with as much force as he could muster into Unit 01's leg joint.

Shinji cries out in surprise, and Unit 01 promptly stumbles from the unexpected move. Losing its balance, the razor sharp blade sends Unit 01 toppling flat on its face before it has a chance to recover, or even react at all. With a damaged torso and a sparking leg, the simulation terminates, ruling in Dingo's favor.
