There's something else that I have to work to quit.
Aspartame. Artificial sweetener.
I was watching Nip/Tuck season 2, and heard the comment that drinking diet soda actually led to the build-up of formaldehyde in fat cells, which actually prevents weight loss.
Could this be true? To the internet!!
Haven't found anything about fat cells, but I have come across several websites claiming that the levels of formaldehyde ingested along with aspartame or resulting from aspartame metabolism can build up and cause all sorts of problems. These people sound a little....reactionary? So I don't believe it whole-heartedly. But it would probably be healthy to trade water for diet soda anyway.
You guys don't underSTAND, though. I HATE water. Yuck. In the recent past, the only way I could force myself to drink water was to add lemon and Sweet-N-Low (instant low-cal lemonade) or to buy the flavored water (also artificially sweetened).
*sigh*
I don't really have the self-discipline to drink water when I get thirsty. (I've got a diet coke sitting right in front of me.) So what I'm going to have to force myself to do is guzzle tap water on a schedule. If I could make myself drink a glass in the morning and a glass at night, I would be heading in the right direction. But it's HARD.
And here's a weird thing that nobody believes--water actually makes me FEEL bad. I feel heavy and stomach-achy and a little nauseated. How weird is that?
We'll see how long this lasts. *sips diet coke*
