I realise I'm a bit late into the fandom. Well, I first played FF12 a little more than a year ago, and instantly fell in love with the pairing. Up till now, I've not contributed with a single fanwork. In an attempt to make up for it, here's the fst. And my long winded song justifications. ♥

LJ is being a bitch and uploading my fst artwork in extremely crappy quality. So I tried imageshack instead. That doesn't really work well either. AIIsincerely apologise for how awful the rez is and how it looks disgustingly pixelated. Higher quality versions of them exist within the zip files, though. And slightly better versions here:

In a classic approach to all things Vaanelo, everything was made as warm and upbeat as possible. Including the cover art. I tried to make the music choices as awesome at as e lyrics, so if you don't snag for the sake of the fandom, do so to discover some new artists! ♥

1. All I Want Is You - Barry Louis Polisar

All I want is you, will you be my bride
Take me by the hand and stand by my side
All I want is you, will you stay with me?
Hold me in your arms and sway me like the sea.

I think this song is all about sticking it out with the one you love, which in my opinion relates to our favourite orphans. Besides,  the song  radiates a certain feel of nostalgia that I associate with them.

2. Let the River In - Radical Face

There ain't a cloud in sight
Look through the snow and the branches
I can count all your teeth
Yeah I can count all your teeth
Now the bed's on fire and the ceiling's gone
And your mum and dad still sing the same old song
Don't scare me off now; I'm your only friendDo

This song would probably fit in the arc where Vaan and Penelo are newly orphaned... p

3. Motion, - Christopher Lyon

We were kids
We copied off our friends
Our mother, she taught us what it meant
Can you hear me? (We fought then)
Are you listenin’? (We were at odds and ends)
Somethin’s standin’ (Our brother)
In your place and (He stayed away with friends)
I’ll be watchin’ from (You come from)
Miles away

Childhood comes to mind again, so does spending time with Reks.

4. Devilish Ways

Too young when your mother died
You did not even cry
Just wondering where she'd gone
Ever, ever since that day
You have been too afraid
To ever sleep alone

I'm really unsure whether this song leans more to Vaan or Penelo. So I'll say it does to both. Again, this song evokes images of an orphaned state. Besides, the song is pretty damn beautiful.

5. The Ballad of Gus and Sam

I'm an honest guy: I've got no reason to lie
You're a superstitious girl you put a spell on the world

OK, maybe not the most Vaanelo song in the universe but the opening lines are pretty relevant IMO. The y sum up their personalities (when they're first revealed in the game, anyway) perfectly, though, so I had to include the song. I ha

6. I'm a Bitch

I'm a bitch, I'm a lover
I'm a child, I'm a mother
I'm a sinner, I'm a saint
I do not feel ashamed
I'm your health, I'm your dream
I'm nothing in between
You know you wouldn't want it any other way

Penelo, Penelo, Penelo. It's obviously Penelo all over. Remember that cute little scene in the beginning of the game where Penelo tells Vaan off for stealing? Well, yeah. ♥

7. Will You Be There

Carry me
like you are my brother
Love me like a mother
Will you be there?

Weary
Tell me will you hold me?
When wrong, will you scold me?
When lost will you find me?

8. My Love Will Get You Home - Christine Glass

If you wander off too far, my love will get you home.
If you follow the wrong star, my love will get you home.
If you ever find yourself, lost and all alone,
get back on your feet and think of me, my love will get you home.
Boy, my love will get you home.

9. We're OK - the Rescues

Desert sand fills your boots
You promised not to run
California Rabanastre won't grow roots
They burn up in the sun
I'm lost but I'm not afraid
So what if nothing's taking hold
All the plans that you've made
Let 'em go
Falling down in the dirt - we're ok
We are tired we are hurt - we're ok

...Well as for the first verse, you couldn't be blunter. It perfectly pins down the imagery of Penelo chasing down Vaan in the Giza Plains. And the line you promised not to run is totally Penelo telling him off for going AWOL all the time. Then the chorus! We're okay I think is exactly what Vaan said to Penelo after they met up again after she got kidnapped. Th

10. Centre of the Sun - Conjure One

When I close my eyes
I am at the centre of the sun
And I cannot be hurt
By anything this wicked world has done

The ambience of the music is sounds like a whole metaphor for the hot and crowded Dalmascan marketplace. The line I am at the centre of the sun kind of reminds me of post-Ba'Gamnan too, during the adorable glomp scene. It helps too that there was an awesomesauce video with this song in it.

11. The Way Back Home

We're just looking for the place that means the most
We're looking for the way back home
Familiar face in a place that we both know
Looking for the way back home

I don't know why I chose this song actually. Maybe it's something about them being a little lost at the end of their journey after the battle with Vayne? I really don't know. It's just a gut feeling I have. It's probably something to do with the fact that even sky pirates may have peculiar places they hold dear to their greedy little hearts.

Note: No official lyrics have been posted yet. ): We'll have to make do with listening by ear...

12. Momma's Boy - Elizabeth & the Catapult

If you want a girl to be your mother
go find another
go find another one

13. Pirouette Dancer - Eric Harry

Instrumental

This is definitely the softest piece in the entire FST. This is pretty much what I'd like to hear upon the totally epic and cheesy love scene.  Also the conventional dancer song. Eri

14. Bonfires - Rosie & Me

Dance, dance
Shuffle your feet with me
You throw your arms
Around my hips
And I can barely tell we're not alone

15. The Magic Position - Patrick Wolf

And I take the world
'Cause out of all the people I've known
The places I've been
The songs that I have sung
The wonders I've seen
Now that the dreams are all coming true
Who is the one that leads me on through?
It's you who puts me in the magic position.
Darling now, you put me in the magic position

Vaan to Penelo, because she is the wind beneath his wings, the butter to his bread and the love of his life. She is the one who sees him through, and stays right by his side no matter what the consequences are. Without her, Vaan would have never accomplished the dream of becoming a sky pirate, roaming the world and seeing the wonders he has, for the reason that every sky pirate needs a partner, right? The Magic Position is most probably my inspiration for making this FST in the first place! Get a shivery groove sensation whenever I listed to it... Aaaand is my most favourite song on the fst. ♥

16. I Wouldn't Mind

Forever is a long time.
But I wouldn’t mind spending it by your side.
Tell me every day,
I get to wake up to that smile.
I wouldn’t mind it at all.

Penelo to Vaan, because he is her solidarity, her very breath and all she needs. He is the one who will hold her and keep her safe forever, no matter how many of his words contradict his actions. Without him, Penelo would have lost everything, because he is all she has left: I don’t know what I’d do if you weren’t here, if something happened to you.

17. North by North - Faded Paper Figures

North by north- lest we have to settle down
we can sail without the wind in this town
Things that London never saw
Northern winters start to thaw;
To islands on the sea,
lands I’ve never seen,
things will get calmer-follow me.

You said a long, long time ago
you were happy being someone
lets go far, far, far from home
I'll be glad to be with someone

To sky pirating, sexy dancer chicks, hot-blooded young Dalmascan lads, the smell of adventure and treasure!

18. Once In a While, Talk of the Old Days - Tokiko Kato

Once in a while, shall we talk about the old days?
That familiar shop we used to visit so often
Along the road, rows of chestnut trees could be seen from the window
One cup of coffee through a whole day
Recklessly seeking an unseen tomorrow,
Everybody had hopes
Blown by the hot wind of that unsettled era,
we felt the moment with all our being. That's how it was.
Sometimes we all slept by the side of the road
None of us had anywhere to go
We had no money, yet somehow we lived
Poverty brought tomorrow

Even during their epic and grand journeys across Ivalice, sky pirating is bound to stir up homesickness and nostalgia. This brings us to the end of the FST, I will leave you with this adorable little dialouge segment from FFTA2 and the link to download (which I bought just for the snippets of possible Vaan/Penelo. I am such a dork.)

Mediafire, 97.27MB

So, that's it! Thanks for listening and hope you enjoyed it! Commenting is ♥ but commenting after listening is EVEN BETTER. :D

y Vaan/Penelo fangirling discussion is STRONGLY encouraged. Go rabid please.
