[naruto/sasuke] - misconceptions about the narusasu ship
So, um, I made a long rant on NaruSasu on the shipping meme I started on dsdragonster’s journal, and have posted it under the cut. I may or my not post it somewhere else.
Disclaimer: I LOVE NARUSASU. I WOULDN'T WRITE 3,000+ WORDS ON SOMETHING I HATE. Stop assuming I hate the ship because I have problems with the fandom.
1) “Naruto is Sasuke’s sun.” Or anything akin to that. Stop please. It burns. Yes, it’s true that Naruto gets through to Sasuke the most, but that doesn’t change the fact that Itachi comes first for Sasuke, and that Sasuke is still broken and warped enough to want to kill his god.
2) “Naruto alone will save Sasuke.” Disregarding the fact that Naruto couldn’t save Sasuke alone. Sakura couldn’t save Sasuke alone. Kakashi couldn’t save Sasuke alone. No one can save Sasuke alone. That’s the damn point of Sakura saying that the two of them will save him together, and the point of them still failing, because only all three of them can do it. All three of them see bits and pieces of Sasuke, and only all three of them can save him together.
3) “Sasuke is a pervert.” Where do people get this? When girls blush at him, he just sort of looks at them before turning back to his desire to get more power. It’s not because he’s gay, it’s because he’s eight years old emotionally, and most eight-year-olds (much less an eight-year-old like Sasuke) aren’t into sex.
4) “Sasuke would chase after Naruto baby uke chan!” No he wouldn’t. It’s Naruto who made Sasuke his rival, it’s Naruto who realizes they’re like family, it’s Naruto who’s decided that Sasuke isn’t going to just live for the past. Sasuke has initiated no relationship of his own, Sakura fell in love with him, and Kakashi chose Sasuke to be his favorite. Sasuke has no idea how to connect with people, while Naruto does.
5) “Naruto is always craving attention and he wants dominating Sasuke to pay attention to him!” Which I can buy, except the fact that Naruto wants Sasuke to pay attention to him by seeing Naruto as his equal. It would defeat what Naruto was working for if he became a weepy pig-tailed uke.
6) “Naruto is a chibi!” While it’s true that Naruto loves like a child in some ways, that doesn’t mean he’s a child. In fact, Naruto’s wisdom is often far beyond his experiences and age. He’s a hero in every sense of the word, and the manga is about him for a reason.
7) “Naruto is the only one besides Itachi that Sasuke cares about.” Where do people get this? Sasuke cares for Kakashi and Sakura as well, and they’re both able to reach him in ways Naruto can’t. It’s a big part of Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi and Naruto’s character development.
8) “Sasuke died for Naruto, and didn’t kill him, thus Naruto is the only other one he cares about!” He was willing to kill for Sakura; he listens to what Kakashi has to say. Sasuke has formed bonds with all three members of his team. Please stop ignoring other parts of Sasuke’s character development to support your OTP.
9) “Naruto is the most important person in the world to Sasuke!” No. Itachi is. In a horribly, twisted way.
10) “Naruto is like a puppy, chasing after his master!” Sasuke is Naruto’s first bond, his first rival, his first friend. Sasuke is the one person Naruto set out to save, Sasuke is the only one he couldn’t save. Sasuke (and Sakura) is a reflection of Naruto’s greatest strength (doing anything to save and protect who he loves) and greatest weakness (throwing everything away to save what he loves.) He needs to save Sasuke because if he can’t save Sasuke, he feels he can’t save anyone. And baby puppies don’t usually go on about breaking their master’s bones.
11) “Only Naruto can melt Sasuke’s icy heart!” I’ll get to the icy heart in a moment. Naruto doesn’t reach out and touch Sasuke gently (the gentle love is from Sakura’s part), but he grabs Sasuke, throws Sasuke, hits Sasuke and in intensely violent with Sasuke. Naruto reaches out and grabs the goodness Sasuke is trying to kill so he can hate Itachi. Naruto makes Sasuke question the beliefs he has with Itachi more then anyone. The bitter, intense and painful rivalry between the two of them isn’t gentle at all.
12) “Sasuke has an icy heart.” Sasuke bottles up his pain, he wants to be alone in every sense of the word. The thing is, that doesn’t stop him from feeling that pain, nor does it make him good at cutting off his heart. Instead, when someone presses the right button, he explodes. He has no idea how to cope with what he’s feeling, because no one taught him how to deal with the anger, depression and loneliness he feels every day. Sasuke wants to be a cool, brooding, ‘too-cool-for-you’ bad ass, but he’s a depressed child and that’s a large part of his character development.
13) “Naruto is a cute bishi and needs manly Sasuke to top him!” Sasuke is the pretty one. Naruto is the boyish, loud one. All the girls want Sasuke for a reason.
14) “Sasuke is too proud to let Naruto top him/too much of a bastard.” Sasuke has an inferiority complex the size of China and Russia combined, but that’s hardly a good thing. When he’s in control and doing well, his tunnel vision is at the worst along with his obsession with power, it’s the times he hurts the people he cares about the most because he’s so focused on destroying anything on his path to Itachi. When he’s knocked down, Sasuke turns to obsess over his weakness and his lack of self-worth comes into play, and he pushes people away. However, it’s also the time he’s most prone to yelling and embracing the anger and pain he’s feeling, and Kakashi, Sakura and Naruto are able to see this pain clearest and help him through it. Sasuke has got to lose control and let the people who love him. help him. It’s the only way he’ll heal. It’s not about whom takes it in bed, but what Sasuke needs and how Naruto responds to those needs.
15) “Sasuke is confident.” Sasuke is horribly arrogant. He needs other people to pander to his ego, because he can’t look in the mirror and see his own strengths, as he only sees what he sees is the worthless child who begged his older brother to spare his life. In fact, Sasuke has never been good at seeing his own strengths; instead he molds himself to what the people in charge of him want for praise. This is a bad thing, because he needs to be able to see his own worth and strength in order to heal. And people like Itachi and Orochimaru use that arrogance to damage Sasuke more.
16) “Naruto-uke-baby-chan just wants Sasuke to top him hard!” Sasuke and Naruto’s relationship is based on rivalry and competition. Neither of them can back down on anything - because Sasuke has to be the best at everything and Naruto needs Sasuke to see him as an equal. They fight over who can eat the most, for crying out loud! In fact let’s put a stop to all of this:
“Sasuke would prefer to be on top and Naruto is more willing to take it!/ Naruto would cry during sex./Naruto is too dumb to be on top!/Sasuke is too dominate while Naruto is more flexible./Naruto it too cute to be a seme!/Naruto looks like an adorable uke in fan art!/Anything else about baby uke Naruto chan and big bad Sasuke seme./Naruto is more likely to bend over then Sasuke!”
17) “A good fuck will heal Sasuke’s boo-boos!” I’m inclined to think that being in a romantic relationship with anyone, especially Naruto, any time soon, would probably hurt Sasuke more then help him right now. Sasuke is deathly afraid of what his team is meaning to him, and when things got too intense, he ran away. In fact, freezing, running away and trying to kill himself are things that Sasuke does in intense and new situations. He’ll learn to move past this, but he’s got a long way to go.
18) “Sasuke is possessive to cute little Naruto!” Naruto is possessive of Sasuke. With a little prodding with Orochimaru, Naruto transformed into his fox form and said: “In my presence, don’t speak as if Sasuke belongs to you!” Sasuke’s possessiveness of Naruto is a bit more complex, he can sort of get along with and protect Naruto on the idea that he’s stronger then Naruto. The thing is, Sasuke has to see Naruto has his equal in order to start healing. Right now, the cut-and-dry possessiveness is on Naruto’s side. He’ll give up Sasuke when he dies. Where does cute Naruto come from? (Okay, he’s pretty hot in the time skip. :D)
19) “Naruto is too caring to be on to top!” Naruto shows his love by declaring he’ll break Sasuke’s bones and drag him home.
20) “Sasuke and Naruto are like Shuuchi and Yuki.” No.
