Part of me wishes Kat Graham wasn't going to be in season 5 so I could just ignore what they did to Bonnie in these last few episodes and stop watching this show. (Though I won't say the idea of Bonnie trying to operate as a ghost and function without her magic isn't intriguing -- because it is -- but the writers will never give it the development it needs to be a good storyline. They'll just focus on her not being able to touch Jeremy and how that's so tragically romantic. Which is ridiculous for many reasons including the fact that he and Anna could touch so IDK why he wouldn't be able to touch Bonnie...)
Damon/Elena was just...Elena acknowledging that he's the worst is supposed to make everything he did to her okay? I think my biggest problem with all of this is that the writers don't even REALIZE what they did to Elena here. They don't understand why the sire-bond was so fucked up. They don't understand that Elena was acting without any agency for most of the season. They don't understand that Damon getting her to feed from him without explaining what that would mean was sexual abuse. They don't GET IT, no matter how many times people point it out.
Which is basically what Klaus/Caroline boils down to, as well. The writers don't get why that relationship is so deeply problematic and abusive and horrible. They don't get why Klaus-Tyler was that way, either. And I just...if you're going to do problematic storylines, KNOW how to deal with them properly. Otherwise, don't do them! This is not a hard concept.
So yeah...the Silas-Stefan doppelganger thing is what saved this episode for me. And they'll basically ruin it next season with doppelganger hijinks and taking away the other characters' consent by them not knowing that Silas is posing as Stefan.
