I've read the first arc - twelve issues I think? I like it. I'm not exactly invested in most of the characters but the series is kind of adorable and I want to see what's going to happen next. And I like there is a canon gay couple. I, do, however, wonder why they haven't kissed yet. After the whole kidnapping by war hungry aliens, it really feels a little out of place that they don't. They're cute and it's nice to see a well adjusted gay couple. I just kinda wish they'd do more than a few baby steps, you know?
And I kind of wish there were more girls and characters of color. I love Eli and I love that he's got issues about race and the text doesn't punish him for it. He's got a right to be pissed off and he's allowed to have complicated feelings about his nation. It's just.. I wish there was more. Just like with Billy/Teddy. It's the same with the girls. What we have makes me very happy. Cassie and Katie are adorable and bffy and Jessica Jones is a very interesting character.
I guess I can sum up my feelings here as walking in the right direction but only taking baby steps.
That said, some things to love! I do enjoy team stuff and I love how they defy really stupid adult heroes because they think being super heroes is the right thing to do. I think there's pretty good chemistry between the team and I hope the series lasts long enough for lots of teenage hijinx. And, of course, Kate/Eli. My feelings are summed up thusly:
