I have come to the conclusion that I can't talk about Avatar because I'm in deep denial that it is over. So I rewatched 'Deep Down'.
- I initially pegged Wes falling for Lilah a bit later on. But seeing some of his reactions to her in this episode makes me think he's already fallen pretty hard. OH WESLEY I LOVE YOU FOR ACCIDENTAL FALLING IN LOVE WITH A CUT THROAT BITCH WHILE BEING ALL ANGSTY BECAUSE YOU'D LEARNED AGAIN THAT LOVE FOR YOU IS CONDITIONAL.
Lilah's side is a bit more complicated. By Home, Lilah tells Wesley that him trying to save her means something. She already hold affection for him, she's very amused by him. They're actually pretty compatible - similar sense of humor, the same type of drive, and they enjoy each others company even when they're having hate sex. I'm not particularly surprised that Wesley fell in love, because he's Wesley. And, of course, he's join an evil company if it means saving her. Wesley wants to save everyone he cares about, but never thinks to save himself. It's one of the many ways he mirrors Angel.
BASICALLY WE NEEDED REAL CORDY BACK. *pulls up one of her favorite Cordy moments that relates to this*:
CORDELIA: Boy, I really do fall for the dumb ones. You know how you're always trying to save, oh, every single person in the world? Did it ever occur to you you were one of them?
ANGEL: No, it never did.
CORDELIA: Well, you made the list, gorgeous. And you needed some help. - FRED/CONNOR IS REALLY HOT. I THINK THIS IS THE HOTTEST THING IN THE ENTIRE EPISODE:
Fred gets up: "You don't feel anything, do you? There's nothing inside."
Connor: "Why don't you open me up and find out."
Keep in mind that this episode is filled with hot. Fred tasers the shit out of Connor, Lilah kisses Wesley when he's naked and she's wearing clothes, Wesley cuts his arm to get Angel to drink his blood, and Connor and Angel have some of their most sexually charged scenes ever. Yet I find that the hottest. I also like how Connor clearly likes Fred and she's been teaching him manners and knew he didn't like tomatoes. And then she finds out about what he did to Angel and ties him up. And he gets all bristly.
LIKE I REALLY WANT HATE SEX? SO BADLY. - Also, it's really fascinating to see Gunn in the role as a parent-figure of an angry teenager. Connor resents him, but also seems to be warming up to him before Gunn finds out he's threw Angel in the ocean for three months. I really wish the show had explored Connor's relationships with characters other than Cordy and Angel more in depth.
- Lorne is awesome even as a figment of Angel's cracked up mind:
Lorne: "Well, there goes that encouraging hug I was planning. Snap to, buckaroo. The only one turning to ashes is that patricidal pup of yours. Hell, I'd take him out myself if I wasn't just a crappy hallucination." - OH MAN ALL THE MISTAKES YOU MAKE WITH CONNOR, ANGEL. So so so many. Someone should buy a book for him, like Tips On Raising A Teenage Son Who Hates You. Or at least someone should hit him on the head and tell him not to lie like season three and that sending Connor out on the streets when he's been in this dimension only a few short months is stupid. Like new levels of Angel!Stupid. This rivals his sleeping with Darla in hopes to get rid of his soul stupid.
However, it's the kind of stupid I don't mind. Because I understand where Angel is coming from and he's being IC. Season three was such a frustrating experience because everyone was OOC AND stupid. It's one thing to jerk a character a bit to the side for episodes like TGiQ and it's another to forget the characterization of most of the cast to move the plot. - To finish off: Lilah chopping off Linwood's head is no less awesome than the first time I saw it.
