It's a coming of age thing, the first great betrayal. People don't just get over it. Even if it's a sham of a relationship, even if you deserve better and all your friends let you know so. That's when the learning starts and you just don't do things like you did before. You're guarded and you're keeping score now or at least you will when the deal really does go down. That last twist always throws people to the other far end of the spectrum. You can't at all imagine anything to return to it's previous state. Everything is clear and evident now, as everyone around you also falls to the wayside. This is the new norm, and you'd better get used to it. Outsmart your opponent(which was once called partner), and plot, defend, and stake your claims. It will all get pretty brutal from here on, and you're just going to have to get tough or die.
