Acceptable Fandoms

Mar 25, 2016 21:37

As a history-based community, we're obviously focusing on fandoms that occurred in the past. How FAR in the past is up for debate, but something that takes place in, say, the 1980s is probably not going to fly. Most acceptable fandoms will fall under the category of "period" or "costume" drama, but there's definitely some wiggle room. Fandoms may ( Read more... )

HOW DID I FORGET NEWSIES OMG XDDDDD

Thank you (and Biz!) This was super helpful.

I had actually thought about Captain America and was waffling about it lol. But I think yes, it can count, so long as everything focuses on WWII-era happenings.

The Time Machine is a very interesting proposal. I'm inclined to say no, since the vast majority of the plot takes place in the future, but the main character is obviously a product of his own era and it shows. I'm going to say no for right now, but let's keep it in mind in case we expand things later.

WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!

No worries on Time Machine -- sooner or later, someone will ask. And, this way, you can draw a hard line in the sand for stuff. Or a wishy-washy line. LOL

So, if I understand the upper correctly.. Back to the Future and BttF III would count (provided it's the parts set in the 50s/Old West), but a no to II (because future). Yes?

OH! Clue. Grease? Van Helsing. Copper. Ripper Street. The Wild Wild West. (seriously, just tell me to stop, any time :D))

Ugh, you're hitting all my uncertainties lol!

Back to the Future is questionable in my mind. Technically it fits with the "Time travel counts IF the majority of the fandom is set in the past" caveat, but at the same time, there's nothing really historical about it, if that makes sense. Ironically, I'm questioning it for the same reason as The Time Machine, but flipped around. It's set in the past, but it has a very modern feel to it. I think I want to hem and haw over it some more XD

I've not seen Van Helsing, but looking it up, it seems more supernatural/fantasy than historical, but maybe you can clarify that? I'm completely willing to defer to your judgement, if you think it has enough real world history in it. Especially since Hugh Jackman is pretty and iconing him would be fun.

Okay, I've got a strange one: The Sims Medieval. There's no real set story or characters, but it's set in Medieval times (obviously). It's anachronistic, of course, but not entirely NOT factual. Also, the music is killer. I listen to it all the time because I'm strange.

Hmmm, this is definitely an interesting one. I think I'm going to say *mostly* no for now, since it doesn't really have a storyline and doesn't give us much to go on in terms of history. However, I'll allow it for challenges that require you to make a character using something like a doll maker or an outfit on polyvore, since it's basically the same thing. Does that make sense?

I'm thinking more for sig tags than challenges. What about that?

Oh, yeah, I'd allow it for sigtags, that's fine :)
