Happy birthday, Miley Cyrus!

I have two letters to write tonight - one sad (to iCarly) and one happy (to our birthday girl, Miley Cyrus) so I decided to do the happy one first.

You and iCarly share something for me tonight. Both of you were my first loves (well, okay, Uglies was my first love but Uglies had nothing on you two) and both of you tonight are getting older (I’m not gonna say “ending” because Miley, you have a long way to go before you “end”).

But that getting older only helps me appreciate what you’ve done for me even more.

I remember when I was really young and there was this girl on Disney Channel telling us to stay tuned for her new show Hannah Montana. I had no clue who this girl was but I was excited to see her show because it looked amazing.

Well, the show went on and I fell in love with it and its actors/actresses, especially one young Miley Cyrus.

“Start All Over” aired on Disney Channel and I fell in love with this song and you. So naturally, I started looking up websites to help express my love for you (because even back then I was an internet addict - mostly just for looking up pictures of dolls but still). On Freewebs, I found this Miley Cyrus poser and I tried to become close to her because I thought she was the real you. The poser didn’t like me though and that crushed my little heart because I couldn’t handle you not liking me.

I still continued to love you anyway though.

I remember when those shower pictures of you came out and everyone was freaking out, I remember when you changed the words of 7 Things to “you’re gay, you’re insecure” (supposedly anyway, I couldn’t tell because the video was weird and slow), and I remember when I would see people hating you for just being you and through all that, I didn’t understand what the big deal. I kept defending you.

Then there was the 18th birthday thing. That was around the very first time I got a Tumblr. I remember spamming my few followers with you for the first time. Then the story comes up that “Miley Cyrus smokes a bong of salvia for her 18th birthday”. I honestly didn’t care (and still don’t) and couldn’t understand why people were making a big deal out of it.

I don’t think anything could make me unlove you. No matter what other people hate you for, I don’t see the problem in it. Because you’re living your life and doing what you want without needing other people’s approval.

I think that’s why you’ll always be my #1 favorite celebrity and overall inspiration. Because that’s how I wish I could be; not caring about anybody else’s opinion, just doing what I want, but still being an overall nice and caring person.

Happy birthday, Miley and thank you for what you’ve done and continue to do for me. <3

Love, Anna

miley cyrus, miley
