Our 14th anniversary... spent at the branch office where John works.
Everything and everyone seemed out to ruin such a special day.
The guy that had John's job previously was a slob. His driver is in Vegas this week. His assistant took last Thursday and Friday off to go get drunk with a buddy of his that was coming home from Iraq. John's store was one of the first on the scheduled list to do a massive periodic return of overstock, obsolete and discontinued merchandise to the distribution center.
I can't tell you how many hours I've spent there over the last 2 weeks running reports on the sales numbers for items, figuring out how many of an item they actually had as opposed to what the inventory in the computer was, pulling, boxing and palletizing all the crap.
Today we finally finished. The trucking company comes to pick up the 5 pallets tomorrow. It's like Christmas. You spend so much time and money picking the right gifts, pulling out all the wrappings and making a huge mess to end up with what seems like such a small pile of result. But it's done.
We were hoping to be done by 5:00. Between all the setbacks including slow computers, we didn't leave until after 8:00. Much too late to go all the way home (40 mins), clean up / change and go back out to one of our favorite Italian restaurants then wait to be served, etc.
Instead we opted for a small rathole Mexican diner we pass by near the branch all the time. I didn't grab any money this morning figuring we'd be using a credit card. They only took cash. We only had $10 and some coinage. He got the special of 3 chicken tamales and I got 2 tacos. We shared both. The food was awesome. Mamacita was very nice and happy that we appreciated her cooking. The piped in spanish music made it feel like we were in a foreign country dining at a quaint cantina.
Like everything with us, I wouldn't trade a minute of it. It was a wonderful day.
Happy Anniversary, Foozy!
