Son Goten | Previous RP (2/4) lazer May 26 2009, 01:12:39 UTC
(cont. from Personality section)

Though mischievous in his own right, it is mightily encouraged when his best friend Trunks comes around. Together, they are the source of a lot of the shenanigans that come up when things get dull. Trunks is the undeclared leader of the duo and the brains of the outfit, while Goten is the support and additional muscle. Even if their personalities differ on some levels, they still share the same stubborn, indignant rage when it comes to fighting with their friends or elders-- to a point where both of them must be knocked unconscious to stop them from joining the forbidden, dangerous fights.

Canon History:

Goten's known history is pretty short, since the series goes through a seven-year time jump for the final stretch, and we only find out about Goten's existence for the first time after the jump.
We do know that he was born after his father died, so he had no memories of his father at all. Instead, he listened to the stories of his adventures and heroics that his big brother would tell him.

Seeing as fighting is in his blood, it's seen that hobby sparring is regular in his life. Whether being trained by his mother or brother, or sparring with his friend, he trains quite a bit. Here it is revealed that not only is Goten ridiculously strong for his age, but he is also able to ascend to the legendary Super Saiyan level. The mere thought of this is completely unheard of, since all fighters who are able to reach this level had to go through tremendous emotional trials in order to achieve it. But somehow, both Goten and Trunks are able to reach it with ease, as Goten mentions he doesn't even remember when it happened.

Goten meets his father for the first time at the World's Martial Arts Tournament, where Goku is on a "day pass" of sorts in order to participate as well. Much happiness and bonding ensues.

Goten and Trunks are forced into the Junior division of the tournament due to their age, but blast through it with ease. The final battle is between the two friends, and Trunks comes out victor after tricking Goten and making him touch outside the ring.
Afterwards, they decide to sneak their way in to the "Grown-up" division, knocking a contestant unconscious and stealing his costume. They make it to the final free-for-all round before getting exposed by a friend of theirs who figures out what was going on, and they flee the battle.

Shortly after, they run into Videl, another friend, who tells them that both their fathers along with Gohan are fighting a powerful, dangerous wizard and devil. Excited to see their dads kick some badguy butt, they fly off in the direction of the fighting. When they arrive, they find Krillin and Piccolo turned into statues, ponder over who would make statues of them in a place like that, and then watch the demon king Dabura become eaten by the newly released Majin Buu. This releases both Krillin and Piccolo from their statue form, and they join Goten and Trunks in watching the upcoming battle.
Vegeta arrives and declares that he will destroy Buu and the wizard Babadi, and fights with the monster Buu. It is here we find out how strong Buu is and how strangely, yet mercilessly he fights.
After Vegeta is seemingly down for the count, Trunks runs over to help his father fight the monster, and Goten follows. Seeing how stubborn and determined to help they had become, Vegeta says that they can help, and knocks them both unconscious while their guard was down.

The boys wake up in Kami's lookout, and are told by Goku that both Gohan and Vegeta had died fighting Buu. Both boys are enraged that Goku was not there to help them, and refuse to cooperate with Goku until he could prove that he was strong enough to fight. Goku does so by reaching Super Saiyan 3, and both Goten and Trunks shut up and listen.
Goku explains that his time is running out, but there is a way to defeat the monster. Goku shows them the principle of the "Fusion Dance", and then is forced to leave to go back to the afterlife. From here, Piccolo picks up the training, and this is where I originally take Goten from.

Here's a Dragonball wiki for additional details, much better than regular wiki.
