Aggravation.
My phone card/the land lines will not work, and I need to phone my bank and credit card company.
I couldn't fall asleep last night, as exhausted as I was, and I could have slept longer, but everyone was very noisy upon arriving at JFRC. It had been so long, I had forgotten what it was like to live in the dorms. Whatever though, having some familiar faces around was good for me. Bob, Jill & I took a walk around campus to explore and take some pictures.
Lunch was good - first real meal in at least 24 hours, and orientation was interesting. I especially appreciated the information on unwritten social rules and cultural behaviors. One thing though, that I wish had been clarified before I had a chance to (wrongly!) put it into practice was giving up seats on the bus for our elders. Silly me totally insulted some woman.
On our way back home from the how-to-use-the-bus trip, a number of Loyola students sprang out of our seats as a group of nuns entered the bus. My seat remained empty and I noticed one of the sisters appearing to have a difficult tiome holding on, so I pointed out to her the open seat. She sat but looked uncomfortable. One of her english-speaking sisters told me that I made her feel old, which was not at all my intention. I interpreted this social rule as giving your seat up to anyone older than you, especially those who are rocking back and forth as the bus is making crazy turns. One of my classmates, however, told me that its really more about moving out of the way for those with one foot in the grave.
Today's lesson: quit being so eager - at home, I am rarely so quick to jump out of my seat.
