They both waited silently, tensely on the third day. Murdock sat with shoulders hunched, in much the same spot he’d collapsed the night before. Face’s fingers drummed restlessly against the seat of the chair, counting the seconds until …

The door slammed open, but there was no sarcastic laugh, no snide comment. Face looked up. The colonel was in the doorway, leaning against the frame. “Sorry to keep you waiting,” he said, and lit up a cigar. “We were … unavoidably detained. You boys all right?”

“Never better!” warbled Murdock, and was already on his feet before Face could say anything. If he was limping, he hid it well enough. He held out his wrists for Hannibal to unlock, as B.A. walked into the room and began unlocking Face’s restraints. “I’m okay, at least. Facie there’s got some pretty nasty wrist sores, though.”

“Seen some like it before,” Hannibal observed dryly. “We’ve got a medical kit in the truck - we’ll get you patched up before they get infected, kid. Come on!”

Face opened his mouth to say something, but words failed him again. What, was he going to announce, They raped Murdock, Hannibal, twice, in front of me - who was that going to help, now, exactly? Not Murdock.

So he closed his mouth, and raced after the others.
