Have I ever mentioned that summer is Nebraska is the shiznit? CAUSE IT IS.
People may think we're a bunch of rednecks, but that's the other 3/4 of the state filled with corn and cows. On the East side, closer to Omaha, it's a fuckin' party. Tents and sales have been going up for the 4th of July. It's such a big deal around here and it's AWESOME. Enough to drag my brother out from frikkin' Oregon to just experience. Every area kind of has a thing they do best and here in the towns around Omaha, it's the explosion-fest that is Independence Day, which ends up getting celebrated with said explosions for a good solid week.
Natural things that are awesome is the weather. I love thunderstorms. What better way to get revenge on a build of heat and humidity than tornado-churning thunderheads?! Some people don't like this sort of thing, but it's sweet to me.
Another is fireflies. We get many in the suburbs. All up in everyone's lawns. Every night you can see some flicks of yellows and greens. (Same conditions attract June Bugs too, which freak me out, but are harmless and stupid.)
If I were to ever become a person of great wealth, this very house would be my summer home.
