The troubles of the upper-middle class...
Referring to my family. Though, this issue does get a little funding from the Navy.
A few months less than two years ago, we rented out our house that we oversaw the building of here in Nebraska. It's a great house and we all loved it dearly. Brother went to college in Oregon, and parents got orders to Washington (3 years ago, I think), and then Virginia. I stayed in the house in an effort to keep it tidy while it was on market for a year.
When we gave up on selling it (mostly due to the media going OMGWTFBBQ HOUSING CRISIS and scared everyone away), it was put up for rent. We found a pair, a married couple, retired-military male and, uh, a female I presumed jobless or online working. We had some concerns when they moved in and were obviously collectors of lots and lots of random stuff; dolls, native american memorabilia, plates, old money, antiques, and piles of other random stuff. Lots of money spent without much income, with a fairly expensive house to cover in rent.
Rent was paid ok, two months were missed and several others were only partially paid. But, we were lenient, and had hope for them to recover. They stayed in contact as we needed to approach them. They got through a year and signed on for another.
This past month, the rent was not paid, and they were not answering. Parents grew worried, for the house and the income supporting said house, and asked me to scout out and see if it was a) still there and b) if it looked like anyone was still living there. House seemed fine, noted the blinds were all down and no cars in driveway. (It's a three car garage, so I'd be surprised if there were cars outside.) Report back, and still no contact with neighbors.
Come today, parents receive an e-mail saying they decided to leave and not pay rent anymore. Contacted the utilities people and it seems they were not getting paid and thus everything is shut off in the house.
My mission now involves checking the inside of the house and see if other damages were done other than negligence, and letting people inside to fix the utilities and possibly repair damages.
Ahem... If you sign or agree on a contract... YOU ARE HELD BY THE CONTRACT.
This isn't even my money and I'm getting angry about it! If there was a problem, it makes life a lot easier to just SAY SO. I know it's shameful to admit defeat and such, but g'damn!
Growing up doesn't bring responsibility, real life example, check~
