r0k!
Ever make plans w/ someone only to have them tell you last minute that they can't go? Yea, thats a flaker. Hopefully, a flaker's actions do not ruin your plans, but sometimes, it can ruin everyone's plans. Do you know how inconsiderate that is to everyone? If you make plans, commit to it. It's really not that difficult, right? Here's a quick checklist to see if you've just been flaked. We've all been guilty of it at one time or another...
1. The Flake.
The Flaker tells you their intentions of flaking out either the very last minute or when you inquire them again about coming (ie. what time you leavin? who you comin' with?). The process of BullShit has begun.
2. The Excuse.
Usually a "reason" that seems all important at the time of the flake, but strangely, didn't make an ounce of difference the hour/day/week/month before when the same reason was considered during the planning. Multiple excuses are possible to further 'back-up' their now seemingly legitimate reason as a whole, aka Rapid-Fire Bullshit.
3. THe Hand-Off.
After the ridiculousness of the previous excuse(s), a 'Final Reason' (read: Biggest Excuse EVAR) is given in which a condition needs to be met. This condition is usually highly difficult to satisfy, at least, in the eye's of the flaker.. (ie. i know the BBQ starts at 3pm, but i can't meet up with you till 2pm, do YOU wanna wait?). See the hand-off? Now its YOUR fault they can't come because you can't wait. Even tho all times and things were established when plans were originally made. Right.
**Bonus**
Utilized by Experienced Flakers:
a. The Incomplete Pass.
Usually works in conjunction with The Excuse step. The bullshit "Reason" they cannot come is because of another person (similar to The Hand-Off) they are tied to (ie. i can't come because my GF/wifey/brother/mother/father/other person of personal importance says they're sick/needs to do something else/needs my help with something/forgot they had other plans...etcetc). Again, the fault is passed to someone else. Now you might ask, "Whys this called the Incomplete Pass? It seems like a good reason and it worked, right?" No. The reason its incomplete is this; if the OTHER person (the one that got the hand-off) is asked by you on why they can't go or how their hamster wound up in a fish tank or why their uncle suddenly needed a ride to the airport in the next state, they give you a quizzical blank look or a stutter-stutter answer. Why the blank look? Why the stutter? Because the reason was BS. Original flaker never discussed specifics w/ third party about the BS reason because it probably wasn't true and original flaker just wanted a more 'legitimate (bigger BS) reason to give YOU to flake.
But now, they're caught out there big time. A person usually can't lie well for another. Remember that. Pass is Incomplete. Turnover.
So there you have it.
The Signs that you're being flaked. The thing is, Original Flaker could've just been straight up and given their real reason (ie. i was too tired, stayed up late masturbating) and all the BS would've been avoided. Yes, they still flaked, but at least they're not insulting your intelligence by making up BS upon BS. Na'mean? What a flaker should do is suck it up and follow-thru w/ their commitments. Afterall, these people are your friends...... right?
