It's Avogadro Day!

Oct 23, 2006 21:41

Today's the day we celebrate AVOGADRO!
He had something to do with the creation of Avogadro's Number, which is how many units are in a mole. A mole is 6.something x 1023 units. THAT'S A LOT OF UNITS!!!
We celebrate Avogadro today because it's October 23! That's 10-23! Just like 1023! (Those poor European bastards don't get to celebrate Avogadro because they put the day before the year, so today would be 23-10, and since we don't have 23 months, they lose.)
In case you don't know what 6 x 1023 means, that's 600,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 units! WOW! With Avogadro's Number, we can talk about atoms without having to use HUGE numbers like "1,800,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 atoms of H2". We can just say THREE MOLES!!!
ISN'T THAT FUCKING AMAZING?!?!?!

fucking chemistry...
