Dawson Shooting

Things are pretty fucking crazy at Concordia right now-- I'm in shock and glued to the live internet feed of CBC newsworld. The only other day that reminds me of this is 9/11-- except that Dawson is just a couple blocks from here. (just as far as general feeling in the air)

People are stunned. Some Dawson students are seeking refuge at Concordia. The shooting started around 1pm. I was at the Concordia doctors office signing up for a walk-in appointment. The clerk was on the phone- talking about a shooting - she had just talked to her son that was in the school at the time. 3000 students were in the school at the time.

I left the doctor's office and wandered over to the Hall building where people were clustered around the tv showing the live coverage. Helicopters have been hovering all afternoon.

All public places are filled with people with concern and anxiety across their faces. Cell phones have helped the news of all of this spread really fast.

The metro is closed, the mall across from the college is closed. Rumors have been started, people on the streets are all talking about it-- all the cellphone conversations are emotional ones- people trying to get a hold of each other.

At first, I heard that 4 people were shot- but not seriously. Now the latest from the hospitals - there are 4 people in seriously critical condition- looks like there will be a significant death toll. Rumor was that their was three gunmen- 1 that shot themselves, one shot by police, and 1 that had gotten away. Now they say that 1 gunman has been shot and killed - CBC now reports 4 dead and 16 injured

I'm pretty shaky- and don't feel very eloquent right now.

All the things that I was going to do today have been completely erased- i just feel ill.
