I know, its kind of shocking, but also thrilling (weird huh?) it wasn't even said under his breath - heard Julian Jones being inteviewed where he says the season opener was pretty much their relationship as we left it in 4.13, but as s5 progresses it will change quite a bit, so I'm looking forward to more of this, and seeing where it goes!
That "threatening and ARSE!" moment still makes me *gigglesnort* every time I watch it and I must have watched it at least 50 times by now...
The growl that is the word "arse" cracks me up. SO much frustration packed into one little word. And Arthur's totally nonchalant reply just makes it funnier. Even the "Threatening a king is treason, Merlin," is said with such amusement. It doesn't bother Arthur in the slightest that Merlin is being so disrespectful because he knows damn well that Merlin doesn't mean it; he's just worried and that's how Merlin shows it. (Just like Arthur saying he wouldn't go looking for Merlin if he was missing is total BS, as we (and Merlin) *know* that's a blatantly false statement.)
They are so in tune with each other's foibles, it's amazing.
LOL, I thoroughly picked apart all the Merthur moments from this episode already.
I can only hope you're right about the magical reveal. I want it but I have actually given up hope of seeing it before the last episode. If it happens, I will be thrilled but I'm resigned to these schmucks giving me less story than I want with this show. The plotting has always been a weak point, that and continuity, everything else about the show shines.

I know... I read your synopsis. And must agree with it... *wink*
Well, I am still going to hope we get it before the end (unless they are *definitely* coming back with a 6th season...then as a season-ending cliffhanger would be amazing!).
Oooh, I hadn't considered the extra pressure that would be applied to Merlin if Mordred entered the scene. I guess we'll have to see how much Mordred is around.
Yeah, Mordred doesn't know *all* of Merlin's secrets (yet), but he knows the biggest one, and that's the most troubling one for Merlin. I think Mordred's going to enjoy holding the fact that he knows Merlin is Emrys (what Morgana most wants to know) and that he has magic (what Merlin most wants Arthur NOT to know) over his head as possibly a way to manipulate him.
Perhaps Mordred will force Merlin's hand into revealing himself, which will then cause Arthur to cast doubt on everything he thinks he knows about Merlin...just enough doubt to insinuate himself in at Arthur's side. After all, I get the feeling that Mordred is a brilliant pyschopath, and much more dangerous to Arthur than Morgana ever could be.

This. A million times. I wrote a story wherein Mordred is so twisted, it made my brain turn into a pretzel. I really hope they do interesting stuff with Mordred. There are so many possibilities.
Not sure if I want him psychoanalyzed or not:) LOL. Heed the warning though. You may not want to read the epilogue.
If you prefer to read on LJ, you will find the link to it on the AO3 story. The AO3 story is split into nice little chapters and it will be easier to avoid the epilogue there.
I think you're right on the magic reveal. Everyone is ready for it. The fans have been very vocal about it. Hell even the actors have been very vocal about it.
