Merlin/Colin needs to get his top OFF in Series 5 so we can compare!
Oh I so agree! However, when asked by fans during the filming of Season 4 if we'd ever get to see a shirtless Merlin again, the J's emphatically said, "No."
I have to wonder if it's cuz he's shaped up since then. If you are as obsessed a fan as I am, you can tell by the shifting and pulling of his too large clothes that he's got some good damn muscle definition under those baggy ass tunics they constantly make him wear. Areas of particular interest: pecs & upper back. Through Season 4 you can catch glimpses when his clothes pull and I keep thinking that they don't think the "harmless" looking Merlin should look quite that good without his clothes on. They already do their damnedest to play down Colin's looks in that role anyway.
And most men do get hairier as they age. A mostly hairless guy in his 20's (and Colin was 22 here) can definitely sprout more hair as he gets older and his testosterone goes to work on other parts of his body. Still, I doubt he'll ever get really hairy. Those uber-hairy guys usually start out furrier to begin with ;-)
Well if your mind is wandering where I think it's wandering, I have read eyewitness reports that the testosterone already got there. Colin did do a nude scene in a live play already and it was agreed upon by those who'd seen that nature seems to have blessed the man with "a third leg". (edit: had to correct that quote)
Now, married woman, have those thoughts!! *laughs all evil like*
I doubt BBC got complaints about his slimness when he appeared shirtless in Episode 1 because he wasn't that skinny then. He lost a lot of weight after that. Season 2 was definitely his anorexic looking days. (I sometimes speculate if he was new to vegetarianism at that point and was still learning how to get a proper balance of calories & nutrients into his diet. I've seen many a first time vegetarian's weight plummet until they learn the ins and outs of the diet and what suits them.)By Season 3 he was looking more filled out and well hell, by Season 4, he was looking OMFG Good!
He's been vegetarian since he was at university, if not before. I think he slimmed down to play a druggie in Parked. (Where we see even more of him, and wet too. Mmm.
Ah, OK that makes sense. I always wondered why there was such a severe loss between Season 1 & 2. I didn't know when he went veggie and like I said, I have seen friends plummet their weight before figuring out how to do it properly. I actually gained weight on a vegan diet but I am a metabolic freak. Any way you slice it though, I am glad he is looking so much healthier! And hotter...
Someone else pointed out that this was around the time he played a drug addict in Parked so he probably deliberately lost the weight for that. I'm sure his work-load didn't help though!
Yeah, sadly it does (I say sadly because no one should look that good while they also look that anorexic) but I have to say, I like him filled out like he was in Season 4, whoa, baby! Hotttt!!
Sorry my sweet, we may actually get a magical reveal but the J's said we will NOT get a Merlin skin reveal.
I think we'll have to hope he does another project to show off that new muscle in another venue, one where they don't do their best to try and hide how effing hot the man is!
Yep, very recently, it was during Season 4 (still filming but I think already airing in the UK.) They were answering fan questions in an interview and the question went along the lines of "we've seen all the other guys with their shirts off, are we ever going to see Colin without his?" They gave a very emphatic "No." And they didn't even do their coy little, "We'll see." kind of thing. No evasions, no hemming and hawing. They said, no. My heart broke and I hated them just a little for that...
*looks at icon* That apparently is the only shirtless Merlin we will ever get. *sniffles*
But but BUT... *splutters* Why on earth would we be denied a shirtless Merlin *because* he's shaped up??!! That makes no earthly sense. I mean, he already looked miraculous without a shirt in S1E1 (all that gorgeous, creamy, LUMINOUS skin!), and now he probably looks even better (if that's even possible) and ...WHY??!!
Oh. Right. The infinite wisdom of the Merlin producers strikes again.
Silly of me to forget about that. :/
Damnedamndamn...
Well then, Colin just needs to be in even more films and theatrical productions without a shirt. In many scenes. And with the camera lingering on him. A lot.

Amen, sister! Seriously, those Merlin producers have been trying to make him look unattractive from Day 1. Really all they could do, without resorting to prosthetics, was to cut his hair badly to show off his (imo adorable) big ears and drown him in clothes that are too big in order to make him look like a stick. Grant you, in Season 2 he was a stick but he's been getting better and better on a daily frggin basis since then. And who the hell are they kidding? Colin's character might not be meant to be eye-catching but it's their fault for casting such a f*cking hottie in the first place! We've seen what he looked like behind the scenes before the Merlin stylists got their hands on him, they can NOT have missed the fact that he's gorgeous, can they? I mean, even hetero males can see that, can't they? If not they miscalculated badly.
Yes, Bradley has the more of the "classic leading man" looks (which while very nice, don't do nearly as much for me as Colin's "guh, OMG!" looks ;-) that seem popular with producers. But seriously, do you think they missed it or did they just think they could make him look dorky enough we wouldn't notice the fact that he's downright beautiful? Stupid men.
I can just see the producers sitting around with their hands up their arses, trying to thinking up new ways to attempt to make Colin look awkward. It is laughable, really. At his most 'awkward' in S2, he was still the most mesmerizingly beautiful goddam thing I'd ever seen (thank you Mr. and Mrs. Colin Morgan!), and by S4 he was just... ravishingly gorgeous, to the point where I was quite literally missing dialogue and plot points while I stared at him. (More than usual staring, I mean, because I always stared.)
I also agree with you about Bradley. I vaguely recall some interview with some producer or director, who went on and on about how handsome Bradley is. No offense to Bradley, who is, it is true, quite appealing, and seems to have a rather adorable personality. (A jock who is also clearly a geek is very appealing to me). But compared to Colin? Eh. At least I can avow that Bradley's looks are complemented by Colin's, which I'm assuming was by sheer accident, as was their perfect chemistry. At this point, I refuse to give the producers credit for anything where Merthur is concerned, especially when they naysay it so vehemently.

(This gush turned into a rant. I'm sorry.)
