katrina and other such musings

i don't know what to say about katrina that has not already been said.

i got into an extreme discussion with my parents about it this evening....
and after reading sarah's lj posts, i had to post my own views... of course...

... i do believe that the city of new orleans made a valid attempt to INFORM its citizens of the disaster, many people who had able transport were able to get out of the city.
i do however, believe that those who had no means to depart the city were left behind...i go back and forth in thinking this has something to do with race, however i do believe it had something to do with societal class. those who were left behind are poor, and mostly african american. those who were able to get out via their own transportation were white and middle to upper class. there were no busses brought in to bus those who had no transport out of the city. there were no helicopters brought in to bring them out.... Bush proclaimed new orleans a disaster area before the hurricaine even hit... does this seem odd to anyone else?

as far as the looting, this is where my father and i disagreed.... survival is a horrible thing to witness sometimes. imagine everything you own, your home, your belongings, maybe even some friends, pets, and family are gone... you haven nothing but the knapsack of few belongings you could grab with you, and the clothes on your back. you waded through unsanitary water to get to higher ground, in seek of shelter... you may have little to no food and water. it is a sweltering degree of heat during the daytime, and the bacteria on your clothing is potentially harmful, as is the putrid water surrounding you. what do you do? i would say this situation would cause any human being to react in the same manner... survival mode kicks in. you do what you need to do to survive, and help those you love survive. its much like adrenaline.... what i have to say about that... is considering the state most of those people are in, if they have to break into an abandoned grocery store in order to feed themselves, let it be... i do not agree with the looting of randoms like electronics stores and what not, but you will always have the idiots who do stuff like that... i mean what are you going to do with a stereo when you have no outlet to plug it in? i think of lord of the flies in this scenario... some people are probably mentally breaking down, all the conditions are horrible, they are stuck, and anarchy reigns supreme for somewhat of a time being...

now another point that can be raised, because we all know how much i abore our lovely president...
a.) im so glad he didnt cut his vacation short to get out there and try and help these people, great job.
b.) considering the american entity is always so quick to send an aircraft carrier to help out OTHER countries in need in times of disaster, it makes you wonder why, when the hurricaine hit two days ago... the aircraft carriers were sent in route to the south TODAY. just one more fact backing up my opinion that bush does nothing but try and fights that mean nothing to this nation. 9/11 was preventable... somehow that scenario could have been stopped... it was terrorism, something slipped up somewhere. this was a hurricaine, a natural disaster that these people were subjected to, yet they are sent the minimal help, from the Red Cross, which is not a federally funded agency. Strange that all of our money goes into finding this man Bin Laden, who if he wants to terrorize again, will... when we can't even afford or provide an effort to save our own citizens.
c.) I saw an interview with Bush where his only statement regarding the looting was as follows: "In times of disaster, those who break the law should still be held accountable." You know what Bush, get off your fucking high horse... These people have lost everything they have... I doubt that man has ever suffered a day in his life, and I'm quite sick of the American public's suffragette status. Put yourself in another's shoes, better yet... instead of "touring" the disaster areas tomorrow mr. bush... why don't you get in the triage sights and actually HELP some people. Maybe then all the parents of the kids who have died in your useless war will think you have a heart again. I'm counting the days until that man is out of office.
GOD BLESS FUCKING AMERICA.

OK, I cannot rant anymore due to the fact that I think all the blood in me is boiling right now.
