[OOC] Fonon Association
This is a work in progress, basically. And still needs tweaking. ^^;;
I really liked atelierjoh's idea of Social Links and wanted to come up with something similar, simpler, easier to keep track of, and related to Tear's canon. What I came up with was sorting her friends and acquaintances by fonon type. Obviously for characters in Tales of the Abyss, some of these are predetermined, but for characters in other canons, we can base this off their personalities and/or the elemental attributes they favor.
What Are Fonons?
On Auldrant, fonons are the base level particles that make up essentially everything (e.g. think atoms). These particles are divided up into six categories, each corresponding to one of the elements you should have seen in every other video game (darkness, earth, wind, water, fire, and light). Eventually these particles began to mutate within the Planet Storm and formed the seventh fonon (sound) which led to the Dawn Age Fonic Wars and a bunch of history I won't bother discussing at length. Anyway, people who can control fonons are called "fonists".
How Do I Read The Chart?
It's real easy. First I have the fonon listed with its corresponding element and then aggregate sentience.
An aggregate sentience is basically the entity that forms when a gigantic number of the same fonons are gathered in one place and gain "consciousness". The aggregate sentiences are referenced in the Auldrant calendar system to represent days and months (ie. Monday is basically "Remday"), and are comparable to the Summon Spirits in the other games from the "Tales of" franchise. Lorelei, at least, is still viewed as a legend by some, since no one has seen it in recent years (or hadn't until the game starts winding down).
I will add Tear's corresponding fonic hymn after each category as she remembers them. The first hymn corresponds with the first fonon, and so on. Usually the resulting artes are of the same elemental type, although not always.
After this I've listed characteristics of the fonon. These are taken from various sources that explain the meanings of the different elements, since that's basically what fonons are, along with a little blurb. I tried to base the information off Chinese and Japanese astrology and Buddhist chakra, but there were glaring gaps, and I had to fill them with my own guesses and interpretations. This is just for fun, so please don't think anything written here is law. It's most certainly not.
How Do I Get My Character Added?
Just comment here. I'll add the character even if he/she hasn't interacted with Tear yet. If you have a fonon type in mind, let me know, otherwise I'll have to guess. Same deal with if you want your character's fonon type changed.

They prefer to hide their true selves away from others by creating brand new personas that they feel are more attractive to the rest of the world. Because of this, they are often misunderstood. When it comes down to it, first fonists are people who will do the right thing in the end. They are often stylish and have deep emotions.

Stability * Dependability * Loyalty * Sensuality
Second fonists are set in their ways, and are so unshakable that these everyday tendencies have the potential to become obsessions if not kept in check. They exude warmth and tend to be very nurturing towards others, but can be overprotective. These people are trustworthy and reliable - the type of people you can count on in a pinch. Second fonists make excellent leaders because they are sociable and good at cooperating with others. The senses are important to them and they can make excellent parents.

Compassion * Equilibrium * Benevolence * Secrecy
Third fonists extend compassion towards others, but at the same time they have a tendency to keep their distance. They are often extremely patient and spend a great deal of time reflecting on the past. Other people may find it difficult to confront third fonists directly, because they have a tendency to dodge the topic at hand, and they will hide their anger behind an outer shell of calm. Third fonists additionally find it difficult to make decisions, and as a result will chose the path that seems the most efficient without weighing the consequences.

Fourth fonists are people who always have new ideas and can adjust easily to almost any environment, which causes other people to take notice. Fourth fonists are intellectuals who think before they leap, but this does not mean that they are above pulling others into their schemes. Normally they are calm, serious, people who exude an aura of mystery. They are often aware of the emotions of those around them, and people may feel more relaxed in their presence, especially children and animals. Fourth fonists believe strongly in forgiveness and do not like harboring grudges.

Fifth fonists are charming and witty at best, but their emotional state can change rapidly, which makes them difficult to predict or control. Fifth fonists wear their hearts on their sleeves. They can be irrational, aggressive, and quick to anger, and at times say too much.

Independence * Security * Self-Expression * Being
The seventh fonon is a combination of the other fonons, and wasn't discovered until much later. Also known as the fonon of memory or the fonon of life, those who control the seventh fonon are typically healers or scorers (those that interpret the Score, and thus the planet's memory), and are something of a rarity.
Music is like a second language for seventh fonists. They have a knack for remembering the words of others (and whether or not said persons backed them up) and may feel lost without advice or encouragement from friends. Seventh fonists have a strong desire to better themselves and reach their full potential - this is something they want to accomplish on their own. But when all is said and done they long for a place and people with whom they can feel safe. They are individuals who strive to live each day to the fullest and value life as a whole.
