Friday night I went to the Kowloon, the hot spot for after prom dinners on the North Shore. Laura, Kate, Amy, one of Amy and Laura’s school friends and I met for appetizers and drinks. Kate and I had only eaten pistachios and cheese pretzels for dinner, respectively, so I ordered actual dinner.
Laura said: “I’ll have chicken fingers please.”
Kate said: “I’ll have cashew chicken please.”
I said: “I’ll have the General’s chicken, chicken fried rice and beef teriyaki nuggets, please.”
I think my friends were ashamed, then pleased when they realized they did not order enough food.
Upon leaving the restaurant we ran into Charles and his gang of hoodlum friends. By way of greeting I hugged Charles, kissed Roper on the cheek, high fived Bobby and phantom punched Wise in the head. I’m diverse.
Saturday morning Kate and I got up early and traverse to the South end for fancy haircuts. My super serious and extra gay hairdresser had the following things to say:
“What are these? Love songs? I’m such a Grinch.”
“So I was reading The Unbearable Lightness of Being for like the fifth time and I think I know where that title Everything is Illuminated came from.”
“Can I take your picture?”
Following haircut hour, I met up with Charles to give him the three dozen birthday presents I got for him. He seemed to like most of them including a lime green LeTigre shirt and fancy concentrated cinnamon mouthwash.
After that we ate all the food and did all the shopping. We traversed Newbury Street stopping at the Puma store, Newbury Comics and the Hello Kitty store. Yes, the Hello Kitty store is real although I think it’s called something like ‘Kitty World.’
For dinner we stopped at both California Pizza Kitchen and Finale. We ate such things as BLT pizza, caramel apple cheesecake, baby pineapple upside-down cake and molten chocolate cake. Cake should always be dinner.
Overall, I give this weekend an A+.
