Worked some more on “Ronin” today.
Finally completed some loose ends from the first chapter that I’ve been neglecting to deal with. Did a few quick snipping of sentences, saved under a new name, and printed it out so I could reread it whenever I had a spare moment. Upon reading it I thought it still needed some work, but was better than I expected. Posted it online for critiquing.
I also started to organize my novel notes--created separate files for characters, plots, chapters, and such. Moved my notes and chapters to their new home.
Since I feel characters are one of the most important aspects of story, decided to work on some of the character sketches. The main thing I wanted to clear up is “What is each characters primary motivation?” and some of their back story before they came to the start of the novel. I keep a lot of this stuff in my head and just go over it frequently, but I want to write it down so that I can expand upon it and have what is written inspire more ideas.
One thing I want to do is plan more when writing, before writing, and after writing ( especially novels ). Usually, I just start writing and go with the flow until I get to the middle and lose steam. It’s time to change the way I tackle the task in front of me-more thought going into the beginning of a project and hopefully more completed projects.
