Immigration Canada has a website where you can check the status of your application. Jen and I were advised not to check terribly often since they're painfully slow about updating the site, and it can be quite discouraging if you keep looking and don't see any changes. I've been pretty good about controlling my urges to check every time I get on the internet. However, yesterday morning I had about 5 minutes to kill, and it had been a while, so I decided I would see if there had been an update. After figuring out the very confusing log-in process, which I have to re-figure out every time I go to the site, I practically fell out of my chair when I saw "A DECISION HAS BEEN MADE REGARDING YOUR APPLICATION." I clicked on the link, dying to know WHAT decision was made. The information I received? That a letter had been sent
Naturally I called Jen right away and told her the news.
Then I called Immigration Canada to see if they could tell me what the decision was. They couldn't, but gave me the number of the processing centre in Buffalo. I called them but a recording told me I'd have to wait until the offices opened 8:30am to call back. I called back at 8:40am and got the same recording telling me to call back at 8:30 when the offices opened. I called Jen to tell her I couldn't find out, and then's when she informed me that it was Presidents' Day and all government offices were closed. Arghhhh! So, this morning, Jen took a half day off of work to go to the post office and pick up the letter. She called me on her cell and opened it...
SHE'S BEEN APPROVED!!!
So, as far as Immigration Canada is concerned, Jen could move here tomorrow. We'll still keep to our plans of having her move here around the beginning of July, since logistically that's what makes the most sense for both of us. But YAY!!! No more having to wonder if we'd be approved or when it would happen. A part of me was really concerned about what we would do if July rolled around and we still hadn't heard anything, but now we don't have to worry. Jen can come here. I couldn't be happier.
I was going to write about some other stuff, but I'm kind of too excited to think about anything else right now.
Edited to add:
We were told that it would probably take AT LEAST 4-6 months before we heard whether Jen was approved for Permanent Residence, but it's been under 6 weeks since they got the application, so this has happened amazingly fast.
Also, my co-workers all gave me a card congratulating us, which I thought was terribly sweet of them.
