The weekend started off with dinner at Martins.
We all arrived respectably late. Being end of the week we were all quite tired, so it was a fairly relaxed evening over a few drinks.
Saturday was un unproductive day. This is perfectly normal as I'm an unproductive person. This is worth mentioning as I am an unproductive person with aspirations that require much productivity. I went to the specialized film library, advertised on the Paris City Libraries brochure, near Montparnasse. I took the bus instead of the metro, an then walked a very round about way, instead of taking a connecting tube. I also left home at 5 P.M. instead of 2 P.M. making this perfectly mundane event into an the major activity of the day. On getting there, I was to find out that the special collection had been closed for over a year.
In typically French fashion, the collection was to be moved to a purpose built film facility that was to have opened end of 2006, but which due to delays in renovation work, shall only open in 2008. The library which was temporarily hosting the collection had decided that they however would at least respect their bit of the timeline and have ceased to hold this special collection.
The cinematheque also has an impressive film library, but the hours are 10 am to 5 pm on weekdays, which unfortunately excludes my custom.
I dropped in to the Fnac and looked at stereos as I need (want) to replace my shitty one.
I then went to the Montparnasse railways station and sat in the Quick there and had a burger. It was a place that I had become familiar with whilst at Laval as I would sit there and wait for my train back, after my weekends in Paris. It was also the windows of that Quick burger shop that I had my first glimpse of Paris, when I had to change trains to go skiing. As I walked into the station I saw familiar sights. I had the urge to buy a ticket and go west. anywhere.
I bought an issue of le Monde Diplomatique and read for a bit.
I wanted to see "Paris", as I don't like criticizing a film without having seen it. Besides, it was in a mood for "that kind of film". But instead I went to see Mikhail Romm's star-studded "Nine Days in One Year", and was glad with my choice.
We ate in an Indian restaurant waiting for someone who decided not to show up.
