I went to see "Avant que j'oublie" yesterday - as the films I wanted to see this week, are sitting on some dusty shelf somewhere. I don't know what to think about this film. I didn't dislike it, but with Jacques Nolot, for every moment of profoundness there are about 20 minutes of tediousness to sit through. It's the kind of film I would have probably been less forgiving of, had I for instance, to "pay" for the ticket. With my all-you-can-see cinema subscription, I've become more open.
Friday evening we went to see Delmer Daves' 1959 melodrama "A Summer Place", strangely translated to "Ils n'ont que 20 ans (they're only 20 years old)" in French. This was no doubt extremely daring for Hollywood in 1959 (this is also the year of "Bout de souffe" - an entirely different level) but charmingly corny.
After this an opening at Eva Pritsky followed by whiskeys at Le Petanque across the square. Saturday was largely spent recovering and then a dinner at Jérôme's where Kim and another guest present gave me motivational pep-talk concerning my job-hunt.
I discovered today "
www.trocdesprems.fr, a website where on can sell their non-reimbursable tickets. I foolishly put mine up for 120 return - instead of the 180 I had paid for them. So concerned was I that I wouldn't be able to load them off. I got 3 offered immediately, and that made me wonder whether I should have put them up at Cost Price.
