I hate job hunting...
I had an interview about a month ago and that seems to be my only lead. The guy said that he's not sure whether he wants someone with more experience and needs to think about it a bit more. He was in New York for the NY film festival when I called him and will be back on the 14th. I suggested that he might have some more specific questions that he may wish to clarify and that we meet again when he gets back to Paris... so this will be another chance to convince him.
Otherwise it's been pretty blah.. been going to the cinema a fair bit. Of particular interest and worth checking out :
> "Kinatay" by Briliante Mendoza - a young newly-wed police school trainee has a harrowing evening when he gets involved with a Manila gang..
> "The Road" : A beautifully dark and stark vision of the post-apocalyptic world and contemplation on morality and civilization.
> "Henri-Georges Clouzot's Inferno" by Serge Bromberg - the story with real footage of Clouzot's unaccoplished masterpiece "L'Enfer".
> "Sin Nombre" by Cary Fukunaga
> Michael Haneke's "The White Ribbon"
> Frederick Wiseman's documentary "La Danse, le ballet de l'Opéra de Paris"
Other films to perhaps check out on DVD or telly if in the mood :
> Armando Iannucci's "In the Loop" - political satire on the preparation of the war in Iraq.
>Alain Resnais' "Herbes Folles" - Renais doing his thing. This one could wait for the DVD release.
> "The Red Riding Trilogy (1974, 1980, 1983)" by Julian Jarrold, James Marsh and Anand Tucker respectively
> Richard Kelly's "The Box" - Interesting enough. Worth watching if there is nothing else on...
And then I shall sacrifice politeness in favour of civic duty and warn you against some films. The to-avoid list :
> Tsai Ming Liang's "Visage" about a director who is to film Salomé in the Louvre...
>Haim Tabakman's "Einaym Pkuhot" about a homosexual affair between orthodox rabbais in Jerusalem.
