The Edge of the Park, Saturday at Sunset (12/22)

Dec 22, 2007 16:22

Aziraphale stood at the edge of the park, facing in toward the center, thinking how strange it was that a town could get under your skin the way this one had. He felt rather certain this would be his last look at the park, at the buildings around it, at the school up on the hill. But he was taking some of the best memories he'd ever created with ( Read more... )

Phoebe had managed to get out of the hotel room without the boys noticing freaking out. She was holding a small box in her hand.

"Big Brother... I wish you didn't have to go."

"Oh, Phoebe, so do I," Aziraphale replied, smiling sadly and holding out his arms. "But it isn't forever, I promise."

Phoebe moved into his arms and hugged him. "It better not be or I'll be very put out."

"Don't even imagine that I'll be able to go very long without looking in on my little sister." Aziraphale hugged Phoebe tightly, and chuckled under his breath. "How will I be sure that you're not getting into all kinds of trouble if I don't keep an eye on you?"

Phoebe laughed. "James and I may be teaming up for sibling mischief, too."

"Now there's a good way to get me to come back quickly!" the angel laughed, shaking his head. "I'm almost afraid to imagine what the two of you could get up to."

He grew a bit more serious for a moment. "You'll keep an eye on James for me?"

Phoebe nodded. "I will and I already told him I expect calls and e-mails if he needs anything."

"Good. You know James, he takes too much on himself and doesn't like to admit when he needs help."

Aziraphale smiled wryly at the box Phoebe carried, and added, "I never did any shopping for the holiday. I'll have to send you something."

She handed the box to him. "You know I don't care about that. Just be as safe as you can and come back soon."

She couldn't wait to see his reaction when he saw what she had had engraved on it.

Aziraphale smiled as he opened the box, pulling the dogtag from its little box and rubbing his finger over the cross. "Give me a bit of help and fasten it for me?" he asked, bending down so that Phoebe could reach around his neck.

[ooc: Is there engraving aside from the cross?]

Phoebe smiled and fastened it around his neck.

"That way you know you always have a home and a family waiting for you."

[[OOC: On the front it says "Family" in Latin. On the back it says: "If this angel is found, please return to Dr. James Wilson..." with the address and "Love, Siblet" :D]]

Still smiling, although it looked as though he was having a difficult time keeping the tears back, Aziraphale turned the tag over in his fingers, reading the inscriptions on it.

"You have no idea how much it means to me, to know that's true," he murmured. "It's an honor to have been accepted as part of your family."

[ooc: Awwwww! *sniffles*]

"Having you as family for the last few years has meant a great deal to me, too," Phoebe said softly.

"This has been...absolutely the most fascinating and fulfilling experience," Aziraphale said, his tone displaying a sense of awe. "And don't think for a moment that it's over. I'm not going anywhere, not really. Just...running out for a bit of work, is all. I'll be back eventually."

Maybe not back to Fandom, but there was no way he was leaving his friends and family behind forever.

Phoebe managed to smile. "I'm not someone you need to explain about work and duty," she reminded him. "That's to give you a bit of a touchstone if things get bad or hazy on the job."
