Surprise Party for Wilson, Wednesday Afternoon at 50-A Minotaur Lane
With Wilson off on his Wednesday clinic shift, plotting a surprise for him was easy. Aziraphale spent the better part of the day baking and making handwavy phone calls. Once of which was to Marie, with hopes that she might be able to stop by after classes and give him a hand.
Marie had no classes or anything on Wednesdays, so she headed straight down to Wilson and Phale's house after the call, happy to have a distraction from missing her son. She had a few hastily wrapped packages with her when she knocked on the door.
At the knock, the door opened on its own, and Aziraphale stuck his head around the kitchen doorway. "Come in, my dear! I'm just finishing up some things in the kitchen. It's kind of you to come help me with this, I don't know a thing about birthday parties, except that you're supposed to have balloons. Only I thought James would find that a bit too much, so I haven't got any."
"We definitely need cake," Marie advised, putting her gifts on the table. "And presents. And friends." She bit her lip. "I wish Andy could have been here for the party."
With a little frown, Aziraphale nodded his head. "Yes, so do I. He was a wonderful child, Marie. You should be proud."
Shaking off the sadness, and hoping that the party might serve to lighten more than just Wilson's sorrow at the childrens' departure, the angel waved Marie over to have a look at the cake he'd made, cooling on the table. "It needs frosting and decorating, though. Do you think you'd like to take that job on for me, my dear?"
Marie managed a grin. "Absolutely," she said, taking her gloves off, knowing that Phale would be careful around her.
With a warm smile, Aziraphale did indeed give Marie some space, helping her find the things she needed and then keeping out her way. By the time she was finished decorating the cake, there were plates of cookies and brownies, bowls of chips and pretzels, and several pitchers of iced tea and lemonade arranged on the counter.
Now, all they needed were friends, and the guest of honor.
