I decided to not buy an out of the box closet organizer. I had seen where someone used 2 $39
Billy Bookcase Towers for the sides of an organizer and then added rods and some additional shelves for an organizer. Each closet was done for about $100. Well, I have some shelves and a drawer cube that I really don't need anymore. I thought I would use them for the center of the organizer and gets some rods and a couple boards to make mine for less than $40.
So last night I stopped by home depot for some hardboard pieces to mount on the back of the shelving cubes (for stability). I actually have a use for all the scraps as liners in the linen closet. I spent around $10 but used like $5 worth of wood. I noticed some cracking in the particle board and I repaired it with wood glue and a clamp. I then attached the hard board to the backs of both cubes and mounted them to the drawer cube with Dowels. I then placed it in the closet to get it out of the way while I rearranged the room again.
I also found some under mount lights I could attach under the Built-in bookcase, so I put them up as well. I had put them aside last year when I was cleaning the garage. They were in the project pile ... Project Bonus! I have gotten 2 more things out of my garage.
I still need to do some things in this room to complete it.
- hide all the electrical cords
- paint trim
- Bi-fold doors
- Rest of the organizer
- Paint the doors (bi-fold and entry)
- new carpet
just to name a few.
I'll get some pictures up of these 2 stages.
