Should I or Shouldn't I Post a list...

Jan 08, 2014 12:12

The Proverbial "They" say if you post a List you will be more likely to complete it because you feel you are being held accountable.  That's not word for word, nor is it paraphrasing... It's what I've put together from all the self-help - boost your productivity - gobbletygook I've read out there on the intarweb that actually works for me.  Last year I put up the Project list - of 12 Projects that I needed to finish before I could move on to other projects.  And I completed 9 of the 12.  2 of the 3 remaining projects are landscaping projects and can't be worked on till spring.  The final one is the Office Cleanup.  That one is a tuffy.  Because I work from home, It's hard to tear stuff up and put back together in a short period of time.  So that one is going to have to be a here and there ongoing project.
So I call that a Post a List success.

The 10 thing a week postings were a success as well.  By posting my plan it forced me to follow through each week with a new post of my Success/Failure for that week.  Even if I only searched through the house one day for things to fulfill the project plan... Well that in my book was a success.  I got Projects done that had been mulling around in my head for years, throw out some junk I didn't need and move on instead of worrying about wasn't done all the time.  It drove me into taking action - round the house and in my life.
So I call that a Post a list success.

So posting a list for me does hold me accountable and I do tend to get most if not all done.  And I think, that maybe posting a list is a double edge sword.  On one side, it forces me to get up and get it done.  And on the other side... It forces me to get up and get it done.

So I think I need to put together a Project list for the year... I can start off with 12 Projects - 3 old ones and 9 new ones.  And I may be off to a better start than I had last year.  I started late on the projects, but I finished strong.  So maybe I can start off strong and then finish... Something.

2014 Project List  -  Work in Progress
  1. Back yard Cleanup
  2. Front Planting Bed ReDo
  3. Office Cleanup
  4. Clean up Front Room/Dog Room Change Into a Library/Guest Room
  5. Downstairs Bathroom
  6. Downstairs Entry Way
  7. Fence Fixes
  8. Living Room - TV Mounted above Fireplace
  9. Drainage - Backyard
  10. ReSod  - BackYard
  11. Finish Downstairs Electrical Work

What I have to do next is define each one of these projects so I know when they are done.  That will be my next post... Maybe.
