The Jeep is always a Work in progress...

So I had noticed that the front grill on Otie was beat up. There were chips in the black paint. There were little white speckles on it. So I thought easy fix right. Well, technically yes it is. A can of spray paint, some painters tape and a screw driver. Couple hours I'd be done right?... Riiiiight.

Well, I dropped a couple of the grill screws into the bumper... don't ask. So I had to get them out. Took a little while, but I did it. Then putting the tape on was an all day affair. I was determined to take my time and not rush things or take a shortcut. I didn't want to make things worse. Then when I started to spray the paint... the paint wouldn't stick. It just ran all over the place into puddles on the tarp. Then I decided I needed to move it higher and proceeded to get paint all over the nice new cabinet I made for the mini fridge. Yeah. It was a mess.

So I stopped. Went in and had an adult beverage (codeword BEER) and then tried again. And It went a little better this time. Mostly. The only problem I had after that was that the tape edges leaked. So I had to take Q-Tips with paint thinner and clean up the edges. Which then made the edges splotchy. So I took a black magic marker and touched up the paint. And there you have it. It looks like A brand new front grill...

I'm pretty happy with the work. While the grill was off I cleaned the bugs off the radiator. I don't have a wire brush, but I found an old hair brush... which I won't be using anymore for what it was intended... And brushed it all out. I also replaced a missing screw that I didn't lose, it was missing before I started this project.

I've been thinking of filling in all the rock chips on the front bumper, lightly wet sanding them down and then spray painting it. Just a thought. Then I have to remember... it's an outdoors, rough-n-tumble car. And there are a heck a bunch more things to fix than that.
And Johnnie said he would help me replace my brakes. I think I can do it... with supervision. See there are a lot more things to do than mess arond with the front bumper's paint.
