Fireproof... This movie is not of my usual Video Fare. It is a Christian Faith based look at the troubles of a marriage on the brink of divorce and the attempt of a firefighter to save it by taking "The Love Dare".
I don't agree or disagree with the faith based approach to this issue... So anything I say here is in no way an attack on anyones personal beliefs. Faith is a very personal issue and I think you all know where I stand. What I am going to do is treat this as any other film... Look at it in parts and then judge it as a whole.
It wasn't my cup of tea on the entertainment scale (the faith stuff), but it fit well in the story. I understood going in that it was written - produced - financed - presented by Sherwood Pictures which is an arm of
Sherwood Baptist Church and Ministries based in Albany, Georgia. So I wasn't freaked when all the "Give yourself to him" stuff popped up. I didn't even fast forward through it.
As for the acting... When Kirk (Growing Pains) Cameron is the best actor out of the bunch, You know this isn't a movie written for the critics. It was a movie with a message. And I must say, I appreciated it and was able to look past the acting shortcomings. There are some funny moments and some obvious ones... but all in all it wasn't a bad watch. Know that I watched this last thursday night and it probably was one of those great timing choices I've been making. It was something I most likely wouldn't have been able to accept at any other time.
If you are married, this might be a little bit of an eye opener or the kick in the pants you might need.
