LUCY UPDATE...

Here is a little info on my sweet baby Lu.  Last night I got home with every intention of running in grabbing foster and heading to the park for our walk.  But when I got home, I was only greeted at the door by 2 dogs not 3.  I listened but could not hear Lucy upstairs lumbering around not even a bark when I called her name.  To say the least, I was a little frightened.

I ran up the stairs to find her laying on the fireplace hearth, sluggishly trying to get up.  I knew she wasn't right.  I talked her into going downstairs and outside to go potty.  She did... very gingerly walk down the stairs and out the back door.  She did do a little business, took a few steps and laid down.  That is when I told her to get in the car.  I knew she was sick sick sick.

I got her into the matrix and headed to the vet.  On the way I called jenny to say I couldn't go walking and then called the vet to let them know I was coming.  When we got there they put her in a room and started the examination.  Now when Lucy is calm at the vet, you know she is not well, even the Vet techs commented on it.  They couldn't find anything externally wrong with her other than a temp of 104.6, so we had to do all the blood tests and urinalysis.  yes Lucy had to pee in a cup... actually a ladle... but she did it without any problem.   So $300 and 60 minutes later, It is determined Lucy has a UTI.  We caught it early so she isn't in a huge amount of pain.

So I take her home, wrap her in a blanket and lay with her on the floor watching TV till about 9:30pm.  I give her her antibiotics and about 25% of a can of food (so the pills won't make her sick).  I then put her in her bed with her brand new electric blanket already warmed up and we all go to bed.  At about 3:30am I open my eyes.  I can't hear Lucy.  She usually snores like a freight train and I can't hear her.  I look over at her laying in her bed and see she hasn't moved since I put her in bed.  My heart is in my throat.  I slowly walk over to her bed and put my hand on her side ever so gently.  And she takes a huge breathe and snorts just a little and scares me and makes me laugh at myself.  She was soo comfortable in her bed, she didn't move.  And her head was in the perfect position so she wasn't snoring.  Just the kind of peaceful good solid restful sleep that a sick little baby needs.  So I went back to sleep confident she was doing better.

I did take her temp this am.  102.3.  Not great, but better than last night.  She still wouldn't eat her dry food, so I gave her about half a can of that food on the dry and she nearly ate everything.  I then gave her the Meds, made sure she had plenty of water and headed off to work.  She was moving around very well, but still not 100%.  I plan on getting out of here a little early so I can get home to check her temp again.  If it hasn't gone down, we are going back to the vet for liquid therapy.  But I think her temp should be going down now that she has had some meds.

We'll see.  I'll keep you all posted.
