From a cacher named yabits, he writes...

I would like to get some advice/assistance from you regarding the Sewell Series multicache (GCM99V) which you logged as finding on June 14.

I have spent probably 12 or more hours over several days on Stage 1 and have not been able to locate it. Also, although I have just recently been introduced to geocaching, I am a fairly thorough and patient person.

When at the site, my GPS centers in the area between the guardrail and the batting cage nearest the ballfield (west side). A 20-ft radius from that point encompasses most of the guardrail, a part of the north bleachers and the front 5 feet or so into the batting cages. There is also a trash receptacle located near the gate to the west batting cage. That has pretty much been my search perimeter.

From your experience finding Stage One, I would like you to confirm or dispute two theories that I have developed. The first is that the cache is not located inside either of the two batting cages, since a hunt cannot take place as long as the cages are in use. The second is that the cache location is at least 4 inches off the ground.

My concerns are that my coordinates are off and I am not taking in enough of a search area, or that the cache might be buried somewhere inside the tangled mess of netting and carpet that comprise the backstops in the batting cages, or that the cache is buried with debris alongside the guardrail or batting cages.

I plan on heading out there tomorrow again -- my fourth day looking -- and, with your advice I hope to confidently eliminate those areas that I believe would not qualify as a clever hide. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Regards, yabits

Here is my reply:

Hi,
Please understand that i cannot give you any exact information.  It isn't my cache and to tell you the truth I doubt I could have gotten through that cache without Owl's help.  It's his cache to give out "really good clues."  But seeing he is on an extreme eastward geocache roadtrip, I will try to nudge you in the right direction.  Having said that... You are very correct about your assumptions of location.  The coords are pretty dead on and you are in the right area.  To be as specific as I can get... It is on the guardrail.  It is up to you to find it.  And it is a very very sly hide.  It's really on the verge of mean... On the verge, not quite over though.

Good luck.  I hope you find it.  Stage 2 is a doozy too.

Cheers

His reply:

Hello Annie

Thank you very much for your email!  Knowing that I would not have to run my hands all over those padded backstops inside the batting cages one more time comes as a great relief to me.  I also felt the bleachers were low probability since one cache wrote that they found Stage 1 during a baseball game - and I just can't picture someone crawling under the stands while people are sitting on them.

And so I will tackle the guardrail once again today - and hope to come to a better understanding of the difference between meanness and slyness.  Owl's Streak Extender 2 in the same park, and which I have not located yet, is in quite a mean area with pleanty of thorns and poison ivy.  I plan to hunt for that one again sometime in winter - when it might be fun.

Regards,
Tom (yabits)

I don't I was out of line.  But that is as far as I will go though.  he's on his own to contact Owl.
