Got to love the folks in the military for coming up with all manner of interesting acronyms and ways to describe a situation. Have you ever been in a situation where it looks like your going to get the short, dirty end of the stick handed to you and there isn't really anything you can do about it? Think of BOHICA - short for Bend Over Here It Comes Again. Seems that where I work we are about to lose another of our experienced long term people to promotion and transfer - and the few of us left that are experienced are facing being moved to different crews and assignments to make sure that each crew has at least one experienced operator to ride herd on the growing number of newbies we are getting stuck with. A couple of them are fairly decent skill wise but most of them are at the stage where they know just enough about the plant to be dangerous. Since the crew I'm on is the last one with two experienced operators that means either me or one other guy are facing a forced transfer to another crew. And he has some seniority on me - oh well! This after having set up our vacations and personal schedules for the year - its a rotating shift job where if your schedule falls on a major holiday you work unless you have vacation scheduled in advance. Add to that, I've waited over seven years to be able to have major holidays like Christmas or Thanksgiving fall on scheduled days off - going to another crew cancels that out as well. At this point I'd put the odds of my being the one transferred at about 4 in 5. I don't have to like it - but it looks like I'll have to live with it for now - but it surely provides an incentive to do what I can to speed up my own retirement if only to get away from the the increasing level of BS that is getting more intolerable as time goes on.
