This is a quick, off-tangent try at getting Hiyuu right.

Well, regardless I can answer some of these questions. My multi ch FF is set... uh...
You know what? I'm going to go check out the first couple of episodes of season one and I'll get back to you on that one. (Need to come up with a solid starting point, but scared because then I'm stuck to a certain period in the anime and having to sync up things... too irresponsible!)
Still: Hiyuu did have some sort of powers that protected him in the school when that witch/skeleton/ghost woman stabbed him and it was after all the "dragon veins" flowed out of him that the others started jumping super high, having super strength, or bow and arrow, or bokken, or telekinesis powers remember? So he had some fancy-unexplainable powers going on before everyone else did.
If you're not convinced by that, recall Hiyuu catching the escaping balloon for the little girl when he was 12 or 13. That scene was set before the anime ever began!
Besides all of this (I WILL CONVERT YOU YET- MUHAHAHA!!!) I'm psyched that I've got a small list of Things-Hiyuu-would-do.
It's calming. I've been sleeping better at night.
