What is it about Gainesville? When I am in Gainesville my bones feel weaker, my body aches, I feel more fatigued, and my motivation decreases. Gainesville is not the place for me. This is proven by the fact that on my way home from Tallahassee last week at 2:30 AM in the bloody morning I got pulled over and given a speeding ticket for apparently going 89, despite the fact that I had the cruise control on 78. The idiot officer asked me if I had my foot on the acelerator "because the cruise control doesn't work when your foots on it?" REALLY, wow you learn something everyday. Please tell me you are picking up my sarcasm.
I am currently on my OBGYN rotation. Its not going to bad, the medical students are very nice and orienting me to how things work, however it doesn't help that all of my classmates have remarked on how awful this rotation is for them, and the fact that the medical students on my first day use every chance they got to tell me how this particular rotaiton blows. I understand it blows, but I am trying to make the best out of this rotation. I know I am on a sucking rotation when I think "Will they even notice if I am gone" "maybe I will just sleep in for 4 hours and skip rounds and just come to my assignment"
It also doesn't help that the residents have no desire to teach, I find these interns are some what dazed and confused about what they are doing and feeling, mainly because I believe that this kind of residency program experience = gold, you have to experience and feel a lot of cervix's to know the differences.
On a good note, today I was in the Lake City clinic and it was a really good experience, I got to see all the patients and I felt confident about it, I am finally gaining more and more confidence. The ARNP asked me to feel the uterus becuase the estimated birthday based on missed period was extremly off from the ultrasound, she asked me how far along I thought she was and forced me to make a decision, so I threw out 14 (not completely threw it out, I knew from location it was some where between 12-20, but I was totally right and the ARNP was totally impressed, she said she has never had a student know that before. She also said that I was well beyond in trainging then what a lot of her students were at, so I was happy about that too. POSITIVE Comments are great!!
Friday night will be my first "24h CALL", I think it should be a lot of fun, I was surprised that some of the medical students dreaded call to the point they were offering $50 for someone to take call for them, I guess maybe its not their specialty.
Its nice to work with nice medical students who are nice, I felt like the med students were gunning me all the time when I worked with surgery, I like it when we all work as a team because sometimes I get the vibe from medical students that us PA students have no right to be invading "their rotation", yeah for teamwork
