The legal process he's found himself stuck in could have gone on for much, much longer, except, among other things, he resists any attempt to hide or defend his actions. Quite the opposite. He was more than happy to tell everyone what he did and how well it went. It was spectacular! They don't get this because they're idiots. The whole matter never made it to court, and the plea bargain's left him here. This isn't big news. He's some nut who messed with the traffic lights, and Gotham has much bigger things to grab its attention.

He does not accept that he is either innocent, or insane. He conceded that someone else had, in fact, said so. He happens to be better than the vast bulk of humanity. That's a fact, not a personality disorder. He plans. He isn't obsessive, he's meticulous. He doesn't have to leave clues. He choses to, because that's how the game works, how he's decided it works.

He is sitting in his cell, of course, waiting to see how things change. Maybe everyone's too busy with Harvey, and he won't have to deal with medication, yet. He fully intends to refuse it, but keeps the fact that this would likely result in a useless struggle or loss of privilege, and not rational discourse, out of his thoughts.
