Eddie looks forward to his visits, from his doctor and his friends, both. It improves his mood for the day. He's not any less cooperative when he knows there's a visit coming, but he's certainly happier and more talkative. Getting him to be talkative again after the incident with Crane has been an ongoing process. Sometimes he's chatty and like ( Read more... )

Peter might be being paranoid. But he's rather be paranoid and wrong than oblivious and miss something important, right? So from the visitor's rooms, he goes straight back to the front desk.

"Hi there," he says to the receptionist, smiling a little weakly, showing his visitor's pass. "I just was up there talking to my cousin, Edward Nigma, and I'd really like to talk to his doctor. I think it's Doctor McCoy; is he here today? I can wait. I have all day. I just really need to talk to him."

Peter's in luck. Dr. McCoy is, in fact, in today. She has someone check down to see if he's in a meeting, or with a patient, and after a few minutes, the news comes back that he isn't, and he'll be right down to see Peter. Another few minutes...

Peter waits by the bottom of the elevator. It's a fact that worry increases the longer you wait.

It certainly does. Luke makes it to the ground floor in due time, though, the elevator gleefully ding-ing in his arrival.

He looks around, and zeroes in on Peter. "Mr. Parker. You wanted to talk with me?"

"Yeah, have you talked to Eddie today?" Sorry for no greeting.

"Not today." Sessions with Eddie take some working up to. "You just got out of a visit with him, yeah? What happened?"

The kid wouldn't be this upset if something wasn't wrong.

"Yeah. He's forgetting words, I think. Not finishing sentences, being vague... I'm worried he's had a stroke."

"Hell." There are certain times when it's... not acceptable, but understandable to curse in front of a patient's family, in Luke's opinion. This is one of those times.

"Alright. I'll go in and look him over, haul him off to Gotham General if need be. I'm still on neurology staff over there, so I can get him seen to quick." He won't point out that it's more likely Nigma's developed another tumor, rather than had a stroke. That's not something Peter needs to hear.

"Thank you for letting me know."

Well, Peter's had close family experience with strokes. And the cancer's in Eddie's brain, so are strokes. There's logic here. "He cut the visit off short, too, and that's really not like him. Whatever you find out, could you let me know?"

Honestly, everything considered, Luke would prefer it to be a stroke. But he doesn't get to make that choice.

"I will. The information in your visitor's file is current?"

"Ye- uh, probably not, actually. It had my old address on it... Here. This is a number I can be reached at, weekday evenings." He uses his knee as a desk, balancing easily on one foot, to scribble his number on the back of a business card to a game shop. His work number, including extension. "And I can check that voicemail at all hours, so that works."

He holds out the card, sheepish. "Whatever you find out, okay?"

Luke takes the card, noting Peter's sense of balance without comment. "Should probably speak with Jeanine over there about that. Get you up to date." He indicates the receptionist.

"I will. As soon as we've got it nailed down."

"I will, just not today." Not until he has an address that isn't Wayne's. "If I don't hear, I'll be back tomorrow."

"If you haven't heard from me by then, I don't have an answer yet. And if I don't have an answer yet, neither I or Mr. Nigma are going to be here." It's a calm, gentle doctor's voice. "I know you're worried about your cousin. I'll get news to you as soon as I've got it. You've got my word."

"Sorry, yeah, sorry. I'm just... worried about him, in here." Because Arkham is really not known for their cancer program. "Thank you, for working with him. He likes you."

"He's not too bad himself. Takes every ounce of my patience sometimes, but I'd take him over anyone else on his hall."
