Friday Night, Movie Night [open]

John and Allison recently did inventory. Not that they ever don't do inventory, but it's been some months now since they took over Oubliette Video so they have a good idea of what does and doesn't rent.

And what doesn't rent? Is getting sold. For somewhere between $1 and $5, depending on how long it's been in the stores.

Bruce doesn't watch many movies. He doesn't have time. But he has a teenage boy, now -- in the acquired sense, not the parental sense -- and a little more free time than usual lately. (Darn rock-climbing accidents, leaving you with a busted arm...) The two of those, combined -- well, when he gathers through the grapevine that there's a video shop he knows a little about, holding a sale -- why not stop by, and see what they've got?

Allison is, when Bruce comes in, putting a copy of Howard the Duck in the store's television/vcr combo. So she's a little distracted by that when he arrives in the store. But, she will do a bit of a doubletake when she does see him, finally pressing play and sitting back down at the counter. "...hello."

He's either so used to this kind of reaction that he just doesn't notice it anymore, or he... just doesn't notice it, to begin with. Either way, he smiles at Allison, big and bright. "Hi! The sign said you were having a video sale."

"Yes! We are having a video sale." Pointing at the fairly large bin. "All of those are on sale, but if there's one you're looking for, we can see if we have it."

"Well, I don't usually... watch movies." He goes out and does the things they make movies about. "But I'm laid up for a while, apparently." He wiggles the elbow of his sling-bound right arm. "So I've got to do something. Any suggestions?"

She thinks about it. "Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, maybe. Or Zardoz." Another pause. "Barbarella, maybe."

While Allison lists movies, Bruce starts poking around the bin, and anything nearby, like a large, rich puppy. "What are those about?"

"Overdrawn at the Memory Bank is about a man trapped inside a computer." And yet, not the Matrix. "Barbarella is about a woman who fights space crime. My husband thinks it's porn. It's not porn, it's in the front room." All information Bruce needs to make an informed decision, right? Right. "I don't understand what Zardoz is about, but there are floating heads."

"Floating heads?" He picks through the bin, looking for this Zardoz. Well, that doesn't seem so bad. And it's got Sean Connery!

He holds it up. "This one, right?"

Should she warn him. Should she warn him. Ha ha. No. No one warned her. "Right! That's the one."

Allison, you are cruel. Bruce smiles, and tucks the case in his sling. (That's what it's there for, right?) One down! Really, he should get some more, though. Hey, one of those collections of old martial arts films, that should be good for a laugh. "Anything else?"

She smiles, slightly, and thinks about this. Appraises him, and considers the bin. "Road House, I think. You might like that. Or Red Dawn." Another moment to think. "Parts: The Clonus Horror."

Rummage, rummage, rummage through the bin, looking for these. "What are those about?"

"Road House is about the best bouncer in the world. Red Dawn is about nuclear war. Parts is about rich people cloning themselves for...parts." Well, obviously.

Road House, then, he definitely picks up and tucks in the sling. And Parts, he picks up... and turns around to read the back of. "Hm. How's that work out for them?"

"...do you want me to tell you how it ends?" She tilts her head at that.
