There's nothing sweeter, and finer...

The weather forecasts had all been predicting snow on Saturday. To the chagrin of some, they're not wrong. It's just a light snow, a couple inches, not likely to stick even a day, but it's paired with biting wind and occasional bouts of freezing rain. There have even been power outages reported across the state, though not in Gotham (yet ( Read more... )

By some kind of scheduling miracle, Jim doesn't have to be in the office today. His phone is on, in preparation for a crisis, but he doesn't actually have anywhere to be. So he's out, enjoying the weather and doing some Christmas shopping the 'old fashioned' way.

By virtue of the fact that she took the day off, Alex is also out and about doing Christmas shopping. She has a daughter. Daughters need things! Like books and clothes. So, maybe she'll run into him.

Hopefully not literally.

Hopefully not. Because that could be painful.

Jim is peering at a couple of lined papers that might be his children's wish lists.

Holiday cheer, falling.

But he sees a face he recognizes! So, to avoid thinking sad thoughts, he'll wave to Dr. Drake. "Hello, Doctor. Enjoying the first snowfall?"

"Something like that, anyway." More so than last year's anyway. "Hello, Commissioner."

"I suppose it could be enjoyed better from indoors." If you like sitting at home alone. "How are things?"

Small talk is not Jim's forte. He's sure Dr. Drake wasn't on the list of people the Joker was looking to get at against Nigma, but the woman was his doctor.

Perhaps he should look into having a unit watch her home as well.

The idea that Eddie would even care if anything happened to her, much less notice? Would crack Alex up for years. "Things are well. As well as they can be at Arkham, but well otherwise. Yourself?"

Eddie caring isn't the issue. If the Joker thinks he might care.....

"As well as they can in Gotham. How's Harvey?" Jim needs to visit, but the Joker being out makes that difficult.

Alex sincerly doubts that she's ever even been mentioned to the Joker regarding Eddie.

"He's doing well. A little impatient, regarding the surgical process."

Lucky Alex, then.

"Oh? I suppose that's a good thing to be impatient over. Is there anything I can help with?" Both as Commissioner and as a friend.

"Have you been to visit him lately?"

"I haven't. Trouble getting away." Jim looks honestly upset by this. Damn that 'protecting the city' business.

"It might help if you did." Just a thought there, Jim.

Look at that face, Alex. You've upset the Commissioner. "I'll make more of an effort. Definitely before Christmas."

How sad. Poor Jim. "That would be nice. How are things, otherwise?"
