There's nothing sweeter, and finer...

The weather forecasts had all been predicting snow on Saturday. To the chagrin of some, they're not wrong. It's just a light snow, a couple inches, not likely to stick even a day, but it's paired with biting wind and occasional bouts of freezing rain. There have even been power outages reported across the state, though not in Gotham (yet ( Read more... )

Things were going pretty good. Well, better than they could be at any rate.

It'll be Christmas soon, which means Church drives. And church drives mean coats! She grabbed two, a green one for Charlie and a long billowy black one for Misfit. She was going to put this week on the win section of her brain. Until this.

Snow has so put a damper on her happiness. She's going to need gloves, hat, boots, and snow pants. She's going to need to alter the Misfit costume even more.

So here goes a girl through the snow, heading towards a store that might be in her price range. Or hopefully a store that might be willing to negotiate.

As luck would have it, Giles is headed toward that store as well. With several Angel Tree angels in his hand. How a childless bachelor thinks he can shop for several young children, one can only guess.

Is there anyone willing to help him?

Have no fear; Charlie is here! She'd probably try to help even if he didn't need it.

It's not even a 1.5 on the Gotham scale, but a confused older man carrying cutesy paper angels still makes her giggle.

When she sees the direction he's going she trots ahead and opens the door for him. "Wouldn't want you to drop one, sir! That one Santa's been ringing his bell a whole lot; they might fly away. You know how angles are!"

"Why thank you. Yes, angels can be tricky. I hope these are willing to wait until their business is done before flying home, though." Someone is cheery. And it might be Giles!

Or the girl in the bright green coat who stares for a moment before smiling wide. "Someone's in the spirit of the season! Holiday shopping?"

The store is average and somewhat discombobulated. Clearly there was a system once, but over the course of the day it seems to have disintegrated. The winter clothes are located right next to the toys.

"Yes, yourself?" Winter cloths near the toys? That just fine with Giles, as that's most of what he needs. Toys and new coats. And other clothing. In small, child sizes.

He's just going to peer at his angels for a moment.

"Oh you'know," she shrugs. "Trying not to freeze."

It's a full time job, and she's practically shopping for two people. But she can take some time off to give advice. "Don't get any fuzzy coats. They shed, like woah and they itch."

"A good choice in activity...." Giles is apparently shopping for a preteen girl, a younger boy and an even younger girl. At least, based on the coats he's looking at in confusion. "Not fuzzy, yes."

Oh, Giles. Charlie begins to sort through the racks with the experienced eye of a bargain shopper. One of the perks in having a younger brother; she knows what little kids like. She pulls out two coats: a blue one with a billion zippers and a smaller peach colored one with buttons shaped like kittens.

"Here! The zippers are the source of its power. And the buttons are fun to stare at!" See how helpful she is? Everyone should have a teenage girl to help them shop.

He looks familiar though, has she talked to him before? She does talk a lot.

"Indeed...." Giles is impressed. And checking sizes. He's also impressed with Charlie's shopping skills. And getting a sense of déjà vu. "What would you suggest for a twelve year old 'fashionista'?" Giles is curious! And wondering what twelve year old would describe herself as a 'fashionista'. And what a 'fashionista' is....

Charlie will roll her eyes. "If she's twelve she's not a fashionista. She's just different and going with it." When Charlie was twelve she had a goth phase. But it was so much fun; she won't deny another 'misfit' a chance. "Easier to buy for than most. She'd like labels but they aren't necessary. Just needs to be all odd. Vintage kooky stuff. It's more an art style than a clothing thing."

Here we go! A plaid coat with lacy sleeves. Itchy but pretty! "She'll like this one. Plus if she falls into a snow drift she'll be easy to see, ... Doctor."

"I'm just reading the little form." See? Giles will even show here. There are even little hearts dotting the i's in 'fashionista'.

Giles makes a face. It's not a bad face. It's a 'my god, what is it with women's fashion' face. He makes it once a day, when he's not at Arkham. "Excellent." The 'Doctor' gets a new look. "Have we met before? I think so, but you have me at a disadvantage, currently."

You go, girl. You heart those 'i's. "Being twelve is confusing and complicated."

She laughs at the expressions Giles makes. It's really the only course of action. "Yeah we've met before. I'm not surprised you don't recognize me. I've got one of those faces. Call me a Nemo."

Well someone has been googling Greek Mythology. The internet knows its peer pressure.

"I remember that part. Most of puberty was confusing and complicated." Giles smiles. "I'm normally very good with faces. You seem familiar, but I've been meeting so many people before in the last few months, my memory has become overwhelmed."

"You must be having an interesting life! Congratulations!" Charlie goes back to sorting until she finds a pair of black snow pants. Boots, gloves, and hat are searched for with rapid speed; the rack of clothes is the one who suffers for it. "Or sorry, depending. Not sure which one."

"I'm Eurydice!" So much reading. "Nice to re meet you, sir!"

"It is interesting, thank you." More interesting then most people would want, ever. Giles just raises an eyebrow at 'Eurydice', but makes no comment. "Nice to re-meet you, I suppose. Shopping for cold weather gear, I see."
